Issue w/ Mesh Router Setup

Hello,

I recently moved and started a Full Fibre service with Plusnet. I also received the Plusnet Hub 2, which works perfectly. My issue is that I have a set of MSI Roamii Be Lite WiFi-7 routers to create a mesh network, but I haven't been able to get them to work, and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I've read that you don't need a modem with Full Fiber, but the Roamii setup wizard & FAQs note that a modem is required. I've tried it both ways and couldn't get it to work correctly.

I'm unsure if I'm making errors during the setup, if there's a compatibility issue and I need a different modem, or if these routers aren't compatible with this network configuration.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Re: Issue w/ Mesh Router Setup

@jamaldcw   The ONT is the modem. So you need to be able to set up your Mesh in PPOE mode with your PN Username and password.

Re: Issue w/ Mesh Router Setup

@jamaldcw welcome to the forum

If you are Full Fibre then the ONT can be seen as the modem, the Mesh router needs its internet port connected to the ONT, the Mesh WAN needs to be configured for a PPPoE connection using these settings

Broadband username or login name	yourusername@plusdsl.net
Connection type or encapsulation	PPPoE Always On
Password	The password you use to log in to the My Account

HTH

Edit: In case you have added a VLAN 101, there is no requirement for that setting as it is provided by the ONT

Re: Issue w/ Mesh Router Setup

Thank you both for replying so quickly earlier.
When I returned home, I tried this again in case I missed something, but it still didn't work.

I have not added a VLAN or configured the network differently from the default settings.

Re: Issue w/ Mesh Router Setup

Fix

@jamaldcw  having just watched a setup video, it seems the default internet connection is DHCP, but it does not show if other options are available.

So it should work if you connect the internet/WAN port to a Lan port on the PN Hub. You could then turn the WiFi off on te PN Hub to avoid interference. However if you are a gamer you will get double NAT which games consols do not like.

Idealy you need to look oor ask to see if there is an option for the internet connection to be PPOE - I did look on google but it is not obvious.

Edit, You may also have to change the IP address range og either the PN Router or the Mesh to avaoid a clash. The Mesh setup is via an app so a lot of things are hidden.

Re: Issue w/ Mesh Router Setup

@Mustrum I will try turning the WiFi off of the HUB with a DHCP setup and see if that gives me any results --- I've been configuring the network with PPPoE every attempt so far. There's no explicit error feedback. The modem pulses orange, indicating "No internet," that's about it.
Images are attached for some reference.

Re: Issue w/ Mesh Router Setup

@Mustrum Thank you for the assistance; this seemed to be the solution I needed.

It seems interesting, considering all of the guidance for mesh networks centering around Bridge mode, PPPoE, VLAN, etc., for this to end up being a regular plug-and-play DHCP setup like typical broadband modem & router setups are.

Anyway, I appreciate the help.

Re: Issue w/ Mesh Router Setup

@jamaldcw  it may have got you working, but it is not the best solution.

Getting it to work on PPOE and without the PN Router would be a better solution.

Re: Issue w/ Mesh Router Setup

I agree. I will have to research why it's not working.

Re: Issue w/ Mesh Router Setup

@jamaldcw

If the MSI Roamii Be Lite has a web based front end (GUI) I would suggest you try setting it up there, the web based GUI may expose more setup options compared to the smart device app.

I would be looking in Advanced Settings if available.
