Re: Mobile phones not connecting to Hub2 wifi

Wrong page - although it gives some useful information - this is the one we need:

OK - don't worry about the additional diagnostics - it is useful but totally essential.

Reported fault but still getting resets and problems including slow speeds.

Current issue is that no mobile phones can connect to the router via wifi....macbooks, pcs, etc via wifi is fine.  Similar with security cameras - no wifi connection.

How many resets are you getting? What happens to the lights on the router when it resets? What response have you had to the reports from Plusnet?

Can you clarify the second paragraph? Are you stating that macbooks, pcs etc are connecting to WiFi normally? Is it just the phones and security cameras that are giving trouble?

Have you tried a factory reset on the hub? If not, on a Hub 2, push a paperclip in the reset hole. Keep the switch closed until you get a green light. It will then take several minutes to reset and reconnect you.

Re: Mobile phones not connecting to Hub2 wifi

Thanks for the reply.  Been out for the day.

Yesterday direct ethernet cable connection was fine.  Speed was slow but useable.

Today....nowt.

Until 30 mins ago when wifi is back for my macbook...runs to check phone.......nothing.

Weird that the connection always asks for the password, every time.  Then doesn't connect and says..

"Check password and try again."

Weird again.

Plusnet have got  BT engineer coming out, meant to be tomorrow.

I'm gonna ask for the copper cable to be replaced with fibre.....ha ha.

Re: Mobile phones not connecting to Hub2 wifi

OK @KenMavor - just let us know what the engineer finds on the speed issue, but sorting that won't sort you phone connection issues, which I admit have me stumped. Usually, with iPhones anyway, a full reset sorts the gremlins.

Re: Mobile phones not connecting to Hub2 wifi

Likewise!!!!

The system does seem to have a mind of its own at the moment.

Was totally dead/down for about 4 hours earlier today and then bang...away we go...apart from phones!!!

Just tried my Pixel 7 to connect to wifi and nowt.  Very, very weird.

As Plusnet/BT recognised a problem outside the house I'll let them fix that first.

I suspect I may have to do a full factory reset on the router at some stage to confirm that there is a problem on the router.  Then if that fails a new router.

Technology is great until it goes wrong.....  🙂

Thanks for everyone's help this far.  Was really wanting to confirm that I wasn't being an idiot.

Re: Mobile phones not connecting to Hub2 wifi

@KenMavor I honestly don't think your mobile/s inability to connect to your home network is any fault of the router, as other devices are successfully connected. I have seen this happen with mobiles/tablets in the past, and usually fully resetting the offending kit sorts it - although apparently not in your case. Get the external fault fixed and your speed back, and then we can look at the phones again.

Re: Mobile phones not connecting to Hub2 wifi

Agreed.

I'll wait until the "outside" fault has been rectified before investigating the "internal" problems.

It maybe that a factory reset will clear the problems.

On a similar note.....can I reuse the same password after the factory reset?  I do not want to have to reset all the security cameras, lawnmower, doorbell, etc just because the password has changed.

Thanks

Re: Mobile phones not connecting to Hub2 wifi

Which password are we talking about, after  factory resetting what - sorry, but you have talked of resetting the router - which I don't see the need for - I am more thinking of resetting the reluctant phones?

Re: Mobile phones not connecting to Hub2 wifi

Hiya.

All the phones (1 * Pixel 7 android and 2 * iPhone) have been switched off and on again.  On my Pixel 7 I have cleared all known networks and forced it to search for any available networks. It then found my home network, and was prompted for the wifi router password, which seemed to be accepted but then just cycled round asking me to check password and try again.  The network was "saved" but every-time I tried to reconnect it prompted for the password again which it normally would not need to do.  Ie First time connected it asks for the password.  Accepts password and remembers the device so when you reconnect it's already a known and accepted device and hence does not need you to enter the password again.

The router has been powered down and up a couple of times but NOT factory reset which I am assuming would reset the current Wifi password.

Re: Mobile phones not connecting to Hub2 wifi

@KenMavor The phone asking for the password to be checked suggests something has gone majorly wrong. Have you tried the same on one of the iPhones, just so we can see if it is a Pixel problem?  As you say, once you have entered the correct WiFi password, the phone should remember it and stay connected/reconnect to your network without further prompting - mine certainly does - on four different connections.

Unless you have changed the default Wi-Fi password on the Hub, a reset on there will achieve nothing - the default is the default.

One further thought before I go and do a bit of gardening - do you have a family member/neighbour whose Wi-Fi you could try and connect to?

Re: Mobile phones not connecting to Hub2 wifi

Hiya.

Good point on trying another wifi network....will do that this afternoon.

Changed the router wifi password and my macbook connects fine but phones don't.

Weird.

Re: Mobile phones not connecting to Hub2 wifi

That strongly suggests a phone issue, but try another network before we start changing too much - once you start doing multiple changes, you can lose track of what you have done. Good practice in this situation says you change one variable, document it, try it, reset if it doesn't work,  then try another.

Re: Mobile phones not connecting to Hub2 wifi

A suggestion would be to turn the wireless OFF on the Hub Two and create a mobile hotspot on one of your phones with the same wireless name and password the Hub two uses, to see if they connect.

Re: Mobile phones not connecting to Hub2 wifi

Good idea....

I set up my phone hotspot as the same name and password as the wifi on the router.

Everything worked as it should do....two iPhones connected no problem, then other devices connected (cameras probably) and no problems.

Convinced that something on the router is stopping "mobile" devices connecting.  I have an old android phone that I will charge up and try and connect to the router.
