New to fibre settings for TP-Link ac 1200

Just about to join plusnet fibre , am possibly going to use the tp link archer ac1200 as my router , I know my user name and password but what other setting do I need to input in the router to get me connected Huh Thanks

Just to clarify (because Plusnet have confusing product naming)

 

When you say "Plusnet fibre"

 

Do you mean a full fibre FTTP connection ? (i.e. internet to the home via a fibre-optic cable)

 

or are you referring to the confusingly named "Plusnet Fibre" - which is actually VDSL on a SoGEA connection ?

 

(where SoGEA is the same as FTTC but without the associated analogue telephone service, via copper wires to the home)

 

My point being that "Plusnet Fibre" requires a VDSL modem,  which your TP-Link AC1200 appears to not have

I am not sure that the OP's description of "tp link archer ac1200" is sufficient to identify the router model.

TP Link make several AC1200 WiFi routers, some have a VDSL modem capability.

Yes sorry not full  fibre to  house , it’s fibre to the cabinet so VDSL on a SoGEA connection

I see in the TP-Link Archer VR400 User Guide (Chapter 11),  that your router can do QoS.

When you have your Plusnet SoGEA up and running, you might want to test your connection to ensure that is as responsive and low latency as can be achieved with your setup.

The easiest test to run is this - https://www.waveform.com/tools/bufferbloat 

If the result shows a "Bufferbloat Grade" of "A+" or "A", then it's all good, otherwise using QoS should achieve those scores.

Hi @Anonymous just changed over to SoGEA and speeds have dropped so followed your link and tested for bufferbloat result showed an "F" not even fast enough for 4k video. Before goiung to SoGEA my speed was around 40 - 50 Mbps but now shows only 26 Mbps reported to PN so will see what happens next, however I did not try bufferbloat before and unsure of the QoS terminology

@mort7890 What router are you using, and has your connection dropped at any point recently? - this sounds like a connection issue, as merely changing to SoGEA should have zero effect on performance.

Hi @jab1 Using the PN Hub2 Router, dropped at 05.11 this morning reason unknown and have asked PN why. Renewed my contract 2 days ago with PN and the phone was discontinued so presume I am now on SoGEA. Checked the router this morning and my speed has dropped to 28 d/l and 6 u/l

I looked at the default gateway 172.16.17.177 thought I would query it through IP Address Lookup and it appears to be a Private IP Address LAN

@mort7890 Any answers from PN yet? If not, and you would like me to cast an eye over things:-

For Community members to be able to help, information from these sites, as screenshots, posted as pictures within the topic, not as attachments:-

BT Broadband Availability Checker (obscuring your phone number), where a landline phone is no longer supplied or known use the address version BT Broadband Address Availability (obscuring your address)

BTW Performance Tester - Over a wired (Ethernet) connection if at all possible, please report the 'ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSTICS'. This test is recommended to be performed with only one device connected.

Sight of the broadband connection status from your Hub (with the 'Username' obscured) would also be of help.

 

For the Hub One -

Navigate from the Home Screen to Troubleshooting > Helpdesk

For the Hub Two -

Navigate from the Home Screen to Advanced Settings > Technical Log > Information

Where the phone line is still active, it may also be a good idea to report the results of a Quiet Line Test - dial 17070 option 2 from a (preferably corded) phone. After the confirmation of your phone number, there should be total silence apart from the regular 'Quiet Line Test' announcement. Any other noise - report a PHONE fault first.

No answers as yet from PN also did try to send one screen shot to them but was rejected as it stated it was a virus, my scanner said it was perfectly clear.

Just a small query on the BTW Performance Tester Additional Diagnostics, what do I put in the form please as I do not have a phone number.

@mort7890 Don't worry about the additional diagnostics, it is clear from you router details that you have an xDSL connection issue - see the 'uptime'.

Can you please export your Hubs Error log and attach it to a reply.
