Quick question. What is the optimal uptime when a router should have a reboot.
Only asking as yesterday I was in the router Admin pages looking for a device I didn't recognise on the network (that's now sorted, it was me being an idiot)
I noted the uptime of the router and sync/ppp was 118 days.
Oddly enough this afternoon the Internet crashed and router struggled to get sync, orange light just kept flashing. I switched it off for 5mins and then on, and it eventually synced up and connected.
I have never seen an uptime like that and wondered if this was the reason why the Internet went down and as line is stable, routinely reboot the router every month.

@penfold Personally, I have never intentionally rebooted my router - my ADSL connection was on ~300 days when I checked it just before switching ISP (and connection type to FTTC).
Does your router give a clue as to the reason for the crash (in the error log)?

@penfold Which Hub have you got? Not necessarily router failing, may just be your connection dropping due to problems/issues with your connection.

Ah, so it is, as I suspected, a BT/OR issue. The bot can be a little vague at times, but what exactly did it say? Depends where you look on the net as to what you do/don't get told.
My suggestion is to check in the morning, and if you are still without service, ring support.

We've tested your service and found an issue in your local area. We're sorry for any inconvenience. Network issues are usually resolved in 4 hours.
Thank you for your patience whilst the problem is fixed
Will just have to wait and see and listen to the 18 and 16 yr olds moaning that their life is over. I'm happy watching dvds😀😀

System up longer than xDSL
XDSL up longer than PPP
All reasonably fine; engineering works can drop PPP from time to time and an odd glitch drop xDSL. Your line issue issue has coincided with observation of connection longevity! Nothing to worry about … beyond the local issues being fixed quickly.

Thanks all. SWMBO has indicated router is now blue again and kids happy.
Yes a bit odd that I looked at the uptime, and then it all went screwy. Line is normally really really stable.
Never found out the cause, likely something at the exchange or green box, but having 3 routers do the same thing did suggest it wasn't anything to do with me

Just a quick addition. Went down again this morning.
Rang support, appears there is an issue with a power supply or battery on the network somewhere, they couldn't see if it was at the exchange or cabinet.
It would be nice if there were support pages for OR outages, that we could see. Im sure it would stop some of the calls to Plusnet or other providers if OR/BT provided a page to check the network
Im sure its been discussed at length before, but there was no timescale for a fix so if not on by tomorrow will be another call for an update, but if there was a webpage it would save a call and hassle.

PN haven't had that type of information on their site ever, so far as I know. There was, up until very recently an OpenReach page which would have given this detail, but it has been amended to only show planned maintenance, not current issues as well, which makes it relatively useless.

From what I can see on the above link, there are reports of area-related outages.
