This shouldn't be allowed surely?
How about a bit of common sense and fairness here.
Many of us have been using a BT Smarthub bought from auction sites for many years now as they were better than the standard Plusnet offering. Why on earth shouldn't a Plusnet customer, still using an old Plusnet hub (I suspect no others would want one) buy one from an auction site to improve the performance of their connection. It's far cheaper than buying one from Plusnet and recycles a perfectly good product. This will make the Plusnet customer happier with the improved performance, so more likely to remain a customer.
Where's the gripe?

You've misunderstood what I meant.
I was referring to the people who sell their brand new unopened Plusnet 2 Hubs while other people are asking for them for upgrades etc but being told its new customers or renewing customers only. Not the people who buy them.
If you look on Ebay there are numerous that still have the plastic covering on and are being advertised as never used.
If they don't need/want the hub they shouldn't be sent it.
Therefore the return it at the end of the contract system would prevent this.

OK but anyone who is upgrading asks for one, notwithstanding the recent delays which are being resolved as quickly as it’s raised, are being sent one.
There’s not an obvious shortage, just rules relating to who is offered one for the cost of shipping.

Yes I know.
Upgrades and renewals are getting them
But people who are still in contract can't get them yet people who don't need them are getting them and selling them.
Hence I think the system where you have to return your equipment at the end of your contract should be implemented. It might stop people who know they don't need/want them from asking for them freeing up more to be distributed to people who need/want them.

You are just not listening.
Customers mid contract are not getting them because that is the Plusnet policy. It is NOT because those who do qualify are choosing to sell them. If these were returned to Plusnet it would not affect the policy of not handling them out mid contract.
If you are renewing a contract without upgrading then if you ring the customer options team and ask they will give you one.

I am listening and I know that's their policy.
You are missing the point.
I'm saying if they sent less out as customers who don't need/want them ask not to be sent them because they know they will have to return them at the end of their contract, they could then offer these (at a cost) to customers in contract who want a replacement/upgraded router.
Instead of them ending up on Ebay.
I am guessing they do not offer them to customers in contract due to the limited number of units they have.
Surely it's better for Plusnet to be selling them to customers in contract that want to upgrade their router then have them sold on Ebay by people who have received them but don't want/need them.
You need to think of the bigger picture rather than short term.
Less sent out = more units - what do you do if you have more units - sell them to people asking for them.
SO it boils down to:
Customers make the money from Ebay OR Plusnet make the money by selling them to in contract customers.

I believe that they are selling them now, or will be soon. They cost aboot £100 plus P&P. If you would prefer to buy one from Plusnet then why not ring and ask?
If you leave then you can recoup a bit of your outlay by selling it on Ebay.

I have one already because I renewed and I use it.
I believe Plusnet should introduce the system (like BT/Virgin/Sky etc) where you have to return your equipment at the end of your contract or be charged.
Lets agree to disagree.
