Which sockets to use on PLusnet Hub 2

Have recently amended my package but still using Fibre Extra.  Was advised to take a Hub Two which has now arrived.

The instructions say to use to use the grey broadband socket. However with my original router this was left unused and I just used the normal Ethernet sockets.  Am a bit confused what to do here? Thanks.

@pmwinter Im guessing you have a separate (BT) modem that was used with your original router ?

The Hub 2 has a built-in modem so the original modem is no longer needed. Disconnect the existing modem from the master socket and connect the Hub 2 (using the grey port) directly to the master socket.

Re: Which sockets to use on PLusnet Hub 2

I'm pretty sure that's the case.  I have a BT unit which my router goes into.  Will have to crawl into the corner to get at the wires!

Is the new unit a better configuration? Any settings need changing? Thanks.

Fix

Is the new unit a better configuration?

Its better in that there is one less box to consume electricity (which isnt cheap these days!) and clutter up the space.

You could still use it with the modem if you wish, simply disconnect the ethernet cable that goes from the modem to your existing router and connect it to ethernet port 4 (marked WAN in red ) on the Hub2.

NB you can NOT use port 4 as a normal ethernet port, thus the Hub2 only has 3 normal ethernet ports to which you can connect other devices.

Any settings need changing? Thanks.

The Hub 2 will autoconfigue with the correct username & password.

By default, the Hub 2 will have a different wifi name & password. To make life simple, if you wish you could change them to be the same as the old router and thus avoid having to reconfigure any wireless devices.
