help with router set up please

Hi

After years of painfully slow ADSL I finally had FTTP installed by Openreach yesterday.

The installer was really helpful and placed the ONT, HUB 2 and the other BT box all in my cellar. From here I will add a 24 port switch and using CAT6 cables I will wire my house for certain devices.

I want to use my own D-Link router in the hall and have already run a CAT6 cable from D-Link location back to the ONT etc.

I thought all I needed to do was put the HUB2 in bridge mode and connect to my own router to create my WiFi network but now I understand Bridge mode is incompatible with FTTP

I've read posts where it says just come out of ONT and into WAN port on my own router and bypass the HUB 2.

Can I get some accurate advice on what I do please? ( basic diagram would be great)

Presumably I now need to run another CAT6 from D-link in hall back to cellar as a DHCP feed to my 24 port switch so the wired side works.

Also how do I configure my D-Link if I am connecting direct from ONT into WAN port?

Thanks

Re: help with router set up please

What you have said is correct

ONT <-> Dlink <-> Switch

In the Dlink you should just need to put your PN credentials in the router where it requests the PPPoE info.
What do you want to use the Dlink for?

Re: help with router set up please

Hi Dvorak

Thank you

The reason for D-Link is that I've found the WiFi signal to be a bit stronger.

From what you've said I replace the stock cable (red ends) and use my longer CAT6 cable to position either router in hallway?

At the moment the HUB2 is in cellar and stock set up as the WiFi router and although the WiFi signal is making it the lounge its not ideal and non existent on 1st floor or back of house. In the photo you can see black CAT6 to left, so,  do I just connect to ONT and could connect HUB2 in hall for now?

Re: help with router set up please

Fix
Yes, just have a longer ethernet cable between the ont and the hub2 in the hallway.
