Broadband Your Way : FAQ
The following FAQs will be updated with the popular questions from the community. Please read this FAQ in association with Introducing Broadband Your Way. What are the new referral values for these products? Options 1 and 2 carry a referral credit of 25p, whilst Options 3 and 4 are worth 50p. We're looking at further developing our referral's scheme to introduce sliding scale referral values based on the amount customers spend with us. This work is likely to be delivered in a future phase later this year. New Terms and Conditions? Why? The only change to the Terms and Conditions is that we have introduced a clause regarding the new BT Wholesale Cessation charge. We will be passing this charge on to customers where the telephone line, or broadband is ceased. New customers will inherit these Terms and Conditions on signup. Existing customers who are changing on to Broadband Your Way will also inherit these new Terms and Conditions when switching to Broadband Your Way. We'll be talking more about this over the coming weeks. I notice that BBYW Option 1 has a cross next to VPN, is this because VPN won't work with Option 1 or because Option 1 isn't considered suitable for VPN due to the usage allowance? VPN on Option 1 is blocked. You need Option 2 if you use VPN. We are throwing around a number of ideas for ways people could pay for one off use of protocols like VPN on this product, but there is nothing locked down yet. What will it cost to add optional items to Option 1? (Is VPN an option?) We are currently locking down additional 'add-ons' that will be made available through further phases over the coming months. One of these is a "Speed Boost" feature that will allow you to pay a fee to get all traffic with high priority. VPN is currently blocked on Option 1. If transferring to Broadband Your Way, can I keep my fixed IP address for free? Yes. Your Static IP address will remain when you switch from your current product to Broadband Your Way. If you do not currently have a Static IP, but want one, you can enable one via the Member Centre. I currently have a Static IP. If I switch to Broadband Your Way, can I opt for a Dynamic IP? Yes. Your Static IP will follow you to your Broadband Your Way product but you'll be able to switch to a Dynamic IP address by clicking the "Control my Broadband" button under Connection Settings in the Member Centre. What is the cost of a block of IP addresses? These are free of charge and available by raising a ticket on your account. As long as you have a specific need for an IP Block and can justify this, we can assign IP blocks - free of charge - by raising a ticket on your account. I'm on a legacy product, can I stay on it indefinately? We currently have no plans to withdraw any of our legacy products with the exception of Broadband Pay As You Go Basic. We plan to move these customers over to Broadband Your Way Option 1, which is the same price with extra features, but we will contact these customers nearer the time. I want to switch to Broadband Your Way. How is best to do it? Switching products is now free of charge. Upgrades occur immediately and a pro-rata fee is normally taken from a credit or debit card. Downgrades occur on your next billing date, for ease of billing. An upgrade is classed as an account change where your monthly fee is increasing or staying the same. A downgrade is where your monthly fee is reducing. Can existing users get the free wireless router if they upgrade to Option 3 or 4? Yes. The functionality is due to be rolled out soon to allow customers to request this hardware when they change product on the Portal. In the meantime, however, please raise a ticket if you would like to take advantage of this offer. Be aware that the cost of the router (£64.99) will be chargeable if you leave within 12 months following the change. Can I reduce my included usage from 8GB to 2 GB and only pay £11.99 instead of £14.99 a month? You can’t reduce the amount of included gigs and keep the Option 2 product. You can make one account change per month free of charge, but you would need to downgrade to Option 1 and add extra usage in order to achieve this price point. Can I pay an extra fee to upgrade the to the wireless router instead of the included 1 port router? No – The hardware offered free of charge is based on the spending commitment you make initially. Please also note that if you want to downgrade down from Option 3 or 4 once you have received your wireless router you should be aware that you will be required to pay the cost of this (£64.99) before you can make the downgrade. If you wish to order the Wireless Router on Options 1 or 2, you are welcome to pay the full cost of this when you signup. Does Pre-Paid Usage carry over? No - neither the pre-paid usage, nor the included allowance, rolls over to the next month. Your usage is reset on your billing date. FAQ. I am on the PAYG Next-Generation Network (RIN) Trial. Can I still access this if I change to a Broadband Your Way product? RIN is not currently configured for Broadband Your Way. While it may still be possible to access the trial network if you change account type to BBYW, it may be necessary for us to remove access at a later date. We will contact customers to advise them to change their realm back in this instance. If I move house within 12 months of signing up do I have to pay my initial set up fees or can I transfer my account to the new phone number? We will defer one broadband activation payment for customers over the period of a year. This means that provided there has been no other deferred activation or previous house move which is less than a year old, moving home will not incur a new broadband activation fee More details can be found here: http://www.plus.net/my.html?s=0&action=adsl_reprovision When is the 128kbps management applied? This is applied when you hit your monthly usage allowance, including any pre-paid usage, and have opted not to add post-pay usage. The management is 128kbps and is applied 24/7 until your usage is reset on your next billing date.
