It seems that, following the sale of the majority of their customer base
to Pipex recently, Cable and Wireless have now given notice to the remaining residential customers they have in order to wind up their consumer business as
announced last year.
There are a lot of Bulldog customers affected by this issue over on the
ThinkBroadband forums here.
It seems a very unfortunate situation for the customers involved,
believed to be around 8000 customers of the old Bulldog service.
The suggestion from C+W seems to be to return the phone service to BT
and source your broadband service elsewhere. Unfortunately for fully
unbundled customers there is likely to be some cost incurred, as much as £125 in some cases. On top of this there is likely to be a cost incurred to get broadband re-activated, or a lengthy contract to sign to get this free of charge. The worst affected customers will be the ones who have their line fully unbundled and pay Bulldog for both their broadband and phone line, as they cannot migrate easily so will need to fully disconnect and reconnect their broadband services.
Here at PlusNet we offer a range of activation options, all of which are
assigned to monthly contracts. Activation fees can be paid up front
(which is the £40 charged by BT Wholesale), or can be deferred for 12
months, after which it is written off, giving a way of saving some cash
from an unfortunate situation, without signing yourself up to an annual
contract.
We've also recently announced a 90 day guarantee and a Summer referral bounty, so there's even more reason to give our service a whirl!
