Plusnet, Give an Hour and Race Online 2012

At Plusnet, we love broadband. And we're trying to do our bit to help everyone to get online by offering cheap broadband and cheap fibre optic broadband, so everyone can afford the internet. We're extremely proud to be a partner of Race Online 2012 - a plan to get everyone in Britain online and using the web. Read on to find out more about how we're supporting Race Online 2012 and the 'Give an Hour' Valentine's Day push.

Race Online 2012

Race Online 2012 is an initiative to get everyone in Britain online - making the UK the very first nation in which everyone can use the internet. According to Race Online, 40 million UK adults currently have internet access and more than 30 million people use the web every day. However, more than 8.4 million adult Brits have never used the internet - and they are mostly disadvantaged people who are unemployed or aged over 65. This year, Race Online is asking internet users to give an hour of their time in order to help to teach someone else how to use the internet and make their first clicks.

How we're helping Race Online 2012 get more people on the internet

We're very proud to be supporting Race Online 2012 and we'd love to see everyone in the UK being able to access the web. Last year, we helped lots of first-time internet users to make their first clicks by taking part in special events like the Go on Sheffield web workshop.

So, how you can help get involved this Valentine's Day

For Plusnet, our love of the Internet is a constant, 365 days of the year thing.  But in the spirit of St Valentine’s Day we thought it worth telling you about Race Online’s special vouchers (PDF) to help you spread your love of the web too. Designed for digital champions to give to a beginner they know, the first voucher can be used to invite someone to spend an hour of their time discovering how to chat, pursue passions, or even look for love online. The second highlights the free-phone telephone number to help them find a free or low cost local internet course. It shouldn’t be tricky at all – all you need to do is show someone how to turn the computer on, connect to the Internet and do something simple, like create an email account and message a contact or shop online. Are you planning to give an hour and help someone to get online this Valentine's Day?  Please leave us a comment and let us know ...
