Back in October, us kind-hearted Plusnetters joined forces with local youth homelessness charity, Roundabout. Since then we’ve been busy raising funds for the charity’s hostel renovation appeal and we’ve made an excellent start towards raising our target of £10k for Roundabout this year ... Based in Plusnet’s hometown of Sheffield, Roundabout provide emergency hostel accommodation for those aged 16 to 21 who find themselves without a place to call home. Young people become homeless for a range of reasons; often through no fault of their own. Roundabout help them with practical life skills to live independently and support them to find a job, start a college course and ultimately find a permanent home. Fundraising activities at Plusnet so far have included fancy dress fiascos, parties and raffles: A special shout out to thank Wagamama for their donation of vouchers for their yummy Japanese food, (a particular favourite of ours here at Plusnet towers!) and also, St Paul’s Mercure Hotel in Sheffield, who kindly donated day passes for their exclusive spa. But we’ve not just been helping out Roundabout with raising cash; it’s been all hands-on-deck to give in-kind support to Roundabout too. We’ve helped out with decorating, shared our expertise on CV writing, given advice on PR and Marketing and passed on our IT knowledge to Roundabout staff and residents. We’ve donated unused PCs from our office so that the young people at Roundabout can work on their computer skills we’ve even handed over some HUGE beanbags, (kindly donated by our Marketing agency, Karmarama) to provide a little comfort in the charity’s hostels. We’ve plenty more planned in the months to come too. Our Charity Committee has a jam packed calendar that includes many more events - we’ll keep you posted with how we get on! You don’t have to be a member of Plusnet staff to raise funds for Roundabout either. Check out their website for more details on fundraising events and activities you can get stuck in with.
