YouTube goes down!

YouTube goes down!

YouTube goes down!

We came in this morning and had a bit of a shock when we saw a big dip in our traffic graphing yesterday evening, a little searching showed that YouTube had taken a massive hit which was visible in our peering links to Google, showing over 2Gbps of traffic lost for around an hour... Googletraffic After a quick look online at a few news articles and the YouTube Twitter feed we found out we didn't break anything - cue sigh of relief! Streaming has grown to such an extent that it now takes up to 50% of our traffic at peak time. YouTube is the most popular application with BBC iPlayer coming in second which peaked at 3Gbps yesterday. With reports that IPTV is predicted to treble and the imminent launch of YouView, can we ask YouTube to break things overnight next time, instead of at peak time?! Smiley Edit: To clear up any confusion, the graph above only shows traffic to Google servers, not all internet traffic.

It's a shame you don't maintain the gateway graphing anymore, or the total network volume by traffic type, they were interesting. I'm assuming this graph is for streaming only (where is the 00:00 traffic uplift, and only 300meg of traffic at low-time even with p2p and usenet at full speed?). Please update your graphing for the techies - oh and bring back the CSC webcams!

@Dean I should have been clearer, the graph only shows traffic between us and Google, rather than all customer traffic. I'd like to see the gateway graphing back, I'll get a blog out about the bandwidth consumed by traffic type for you soon!

and make way for the onlive data that will sure only increase from this point on, my boys hammered lego batman for 30 mins this evening with a total of 600MB and only had the monitor running for i think 20-25 mins so probally 700mb for 30 mins gaming time after that 30 mins they tried a diff game and got bad blocking of the video stream and status coming up saying the connection (Virgin media 30/3mb) wasnt faster enough, feels like a thottle kicked in at 5pm or some reason VM is shaping onlive after 1gb usage. nothing confirmed but the limited tinker time i had to test left me with that feeling
