To me, complaining about paying £5 for an extra 5GB sounds like "I'm really well-off but I want to be even more so".  Spare a thought for the broadband poor.  I pay £12.99 per month for Plusnet Value 10GB.  Unlimited cost more and there is no fibre here.  I look forward to you picketing the Plusnet offices on behalf of myself or anyone else who lives in a Market 1 area.  .

Whilst I understand your position regarding the more than doubling of cost in Market 1 and the inevitable irritation|annoyance|anger, you are still in the same position as me regarding usage over 10GB: £5 per 5GB or part thereof vs £4 for unlimited. Yes, £5 for 100MB is better than £48 for no additional usage but I haven't found any cost figures to explain the reasoning. I suspect it is similar to mobile phone operators - they need to charge 10p/min PAYG to just make a profit or 4p/min with "bundles" where 75% of the call allowance is used, so texts/data are notionally free  Shocked
Also, I won't be picketing the Plusnet offices as I see no reason to change my opinions on that action (after 50 years of employment and retirement).
Plusnet FTTC (Sep 2014), Essentials (Feb 2013); ADSL (Apr 2009); Customer since Jan 2004 (on 28kb dial-up)
Using a TP-Link Archer VR600 modem-router.

It's called market forces and you can always move of course, but I guess you feel you have other benefits making living there worthwhile!  I love living on the edge of a city and having almost everything I could possibly need within a 15 minutes drive - or I could use my free bus pass!  😉 -  including a National Park!  Actually I'm a bit of a socialist at heart and wouldn't object to standard pricing for all of life's essentials, which now might include BB, but it's not going to happen.

Why not upgrade to unlimited for an extra £3.50 (if you contract for a year)?

Thanks for your suggestion and assistance. Much appreciated.

It's called market forces ...

No its not.  It is manipulation of the market by OFCOM, seasoned with a soupçon of indolence!  There is nothing market-driven about Ofcom's market classifications.
