connection seems more stable than before running through the fault checker, but has reconnected once or twice this evening.
speed from the my broadband speed test is better but still poor.

ah yes... i was. .cant access them till i get back tonight.. i think we were approaching 200 kbps last night.
was a bit frustrated that the fault checker links you to a different speed test to the connection settings speed test page.... and then tells me i should have 3 test results before continuing !..... well i have several results from mybroadbandspeed.... but only one now from the BT tester and a 3hr gap required between tests !   anyway i guess the result of my one test was rubbish enough to bypass that as the fault checker moved on fairly sharpish after that.

i did wonder if james here & james there correlated 
although now i don't know where best to respond!
faceplate is currently on the master socket with a splitter.
modem has its own filter directly off the splitter, phone has it's own filter at the other end of an extension lead.

Is the extension lead filtered?  It's very important that it is, or it may cause the interference that's affecting your speeds.

hmmm not currently but then i dont think it ever has been.
its been in a few different configurations over this last week so i'm a bit fuzzy on that.

hmmm.. just had dismal connection.. so rebooted router and speed test whizzes round nicely.
will keep an eye out for disconnections tonight/tomorrow & update ticket as appropriate.

Right, the latest appears to be that BT have made a change to the noise profile on your line.
This happened at 11:15 - Any joy since this happened?

change yes... joy no.
i got home at just after one (intending to work from home for the afternoon) to find no connection at all..... gave up at just after two.
now in coffee shop !
