ok if because of an Ofcom ruling you have to provide my current phone provider this 10 day notice period, but WHY not give them the 10 day notice period from when I placed the order with you, instead of the 10 days from when the broadband is switched, so the the time runs concurrently?  so the phone should be switched three days after the broadband?
Is there some reason you can't do this?

Due to you migrating to us using a MAC Code the broadband/FTTC order is placed first and the phone follows once the broadband/FTTC order is complete. If we placed the phone order at the same time as the migration of your broadband/FTTC the orders would cancel as there can only be 1 order going through. These types of orders are different to "SIM" orders. The "10 working day notice period" starts when we submit the order.
You can have a read through this which should explain this: http://community.plus.net/library/provisioning/signing-up-to-plusnet/

Linn - many thanks for the link.
So as I am migrating fibre and a working phone (and I want to keep my number) then it will take PN 3 weeks MINIMUM (15-17 working days)  to transfer that service completely over, assuming everything goes smoothly.
That's not what I was lead to believe.
Maybe PN should be more upfront about that, and you might get less complaints!

Re: Can anyone tell me how long it took to get swapped to Plusnet from another isp?

For the record I put my order in to Plusnet to migrate my fibre line and phone on 31 May 2014.
There was a 10 working day delay, because my order hung up in Plusnet's system for 10 working days, it said it was checking my line.  If this happens to you ring Plusnet straight away, and they will sort it. (just don't ring at busy times!) 😉
My fibre has been successfully migrated across  today 20 June 2014. I've been advised "The transfer of your phone line SHOULD HAPPEN on 4 July 2014" which is 10 working days later.
I'll check speeds and report back on them in due course, but so far so good....
Despite the "warnings" from BT that Plusnet use traffic management on their lines, basically trying to worry me in to staying with them. Didn't work BT!!!

A lot of people confuse the traffic management with Plusnet's traffic prioritisation. Two very different beasties.
One can slow your speed down at will (management) while the other runs at full speed but gives preference to higher priority traffic (i.e. Video over Torrenting)

I know this, but thanks for the clarification for others.
I was just quoting what BT told me, when I was asking for a MAC code to migrate to Plusnet.
Incidentally they also told me I couldn't get BT Sport with Plusnet,  Roll_eyes I did take pleasure in pointing out this was incorrect - https://www.plus.net/tv/btsport/

Fingers crossed you get a good stable service (as I have). I'm now on my last month of my 18 month contract and can't see any reason to move elsewhere Smiley
One of my bugbears is the misinformation on some of the other forums about the traffic shaping / prioritisation.

Depends.  Do you mean how long until they start billing you?  Not long.  How long until you have a satisfactory broadband service?  Not sure.  I never got there.

Re: Can anyone tell me how long it took to get swapped to Plusnet from another isp?

@ subuta - what's that got to do with the price of eggs?
@DomS - I agree I was happy for years with Plusnet, I changed to BT (who I was also happy with), and and now three weeks into an 18 month contract with Plusnet and I'm happy once again.
They did make a mistake with my migration, they apologised, and made amends. All in all I'm happy with the service they provide.
I wasn't bothered about the shaping/prioritisation when BT tried to put me off migrating, as it makes perfect sense to me, and when I was Plusnet previously, it worked fine.  Lets face it with fibre it doesn't make much difference anyway!

For the record I put my order in to Plusnet to migrate my fibre line and phone on 31 May 2014.
My fibre was successfully migrated across on 20 June 2014. (there was a delay in starting the order.
I was advised "The transfer of your phone line SHOULD HAPPEN on 4 July 2014".  True to their word it was successfully migrated this morning.
I am getting exactly the same speeds as I was when I was with BT.  So despite the "warnings" from BT that Plusnet use traffic management on their lines, basically trying to worry me in to staying with them.  Roll_eyes  (shame on you BT)
Thanks Plusnet for a successful migration from BT  (despite a slight hiccup at the beginning).  Here's to the next 18 months!  Cheers!  Cheesy

Re: Can anyone tell me how long it took to get swapped to Plusnet from another isp?

26 days of pure agro dealing with this company They say will connect on the 4th June .I phoned them on the 2nd to check this is still going ahead .Their response was you never paid the connection charge .They never asked for one.Promised connection on the 12th .Phone connected but as they had not even sent the router it was not connected .Router arrived but their automated system had not booked the line .Promised the 23rd .On 23rd told BT had had the line for so long they cancelled the order Funny how the week before it had not been ordered .Might be manually connected on the 26th Finally connected on the 30th but even then could not access the internet as they had spelt my password wrong of course that was my fault .This company should be closed down, they are inept , lie, blame the customer and are useless. They get every thing wrong Pass word, user name, call package i asked for , connection date. They must practice at how to mess everything up because the law of averages says they could not get everything wrong on an orderStill only 11 months to go and goodbye Plusnet  as i am not paying their cancellation fees 4 complaints made to Ofcom, 2 letters to MD but never the courtesy of a reply .Still watchdog are going to do a promgramme about them but personally i feel it should be Rogue Traders

Re: Can anyone tell me how long it took to get swapped to Plusnet from another isp?

Hi noname,
Glad to hear that all is now looking good after the initial blip, do let us know if you need anything more and we'll be more than happy to help.

@lindahoad - Sorry to hear that you've had issues regarding delays in the service, it sounds like the first delay is due to the initial payment being taken which can happen if the account is set up with only a Direct Debit for payment as we have to wait for this to be set up so this can overshoot the initial installation dates you're able to pick when the order is placed. We did provide you with a Service Notice as well as an email to outline the possible delay when using a Direct Debit as the primary payment method, the full details can be found on Service Notice: SN194458561.
After reviewing your account it does look as though you signed this account up yourself which would indicate that you selected the username and password yourself, is this correct? From time to time we have seen the odd typo when either the customer or the sales agent creates the account so apologies if this is something that we did however it doesn't seem to be the case.
I have noticed that you now have a complaint raised with us so we should be updating this for you with full details shortly, in meantime if there is anything in particular that I can help you please let me know.

Re: Can anyone tell me how long it took to get swapped to Plusnet from another isp?

Hi, initial blip, is that what you call it
I paid the installation charge on a debit card .
I would have paid it on ordering but no one asked
Perhaps you need to tell your staff to ask next time
I know how to spell my password and made sure your member of staff did as well
You really seem to think that describing your appalling service as an "initial blip" is ok
I have noticed with your company that everything is the customers mistake
You never own up to your own mistakes
Still it is my mistake for signing up with your company
