Re: Do users have any right to discuss Plusnet's spending on advertising?

YES We should be free to discuss what we please here. It is an open Forum moderated by its users and NOT regulated by PlusNet, BT or any opressive body.
However,
PlusNet is a wholly owned subsidiary of a PLC and although most of us are CUSTOMERS, very few are owners (shareholders) in the Company.
There is a mistaken belief abroad that Customers have  rights similar to those enjoyed by MEMBERS of a Mutual Society. This is absurd.
If you are a Shareholder of the Holding compant (BT PLC) then take your objections to the AGM or write to Stocholder relations.
PlusNet can do what it likes with the revenue it takes for providing this service. If any Customer doesn't like like what PlusNet does with its revenue, he/she has two choices:

  • Find another ISP and migrate

  • Suck it up!

Can't see that how Plusnet spend their money is any of our business.
I currently pay them £5.99 + £11.25, by Direct Debit, and they provide me with a service. Shortly the cost of that service will increase by £0.74 per month to £17.98.
Nearly 9 years ago, April 2002, I was paying £23.44 per month for 512k plus whatever the BT line rental was in those days.
Still strikes me I'm getting reet good value  Smiley

Neither do I although I am still a bit bemused to see Plusnet on quite a large number of advertising hoardings as I travel around South Yorkshire. Seems like there is one around every corner.  It just feels a bit strange  after so many years of no advertising and growth was largely by word of mouth/referrals.
On the whole I am glad that Plusnet is growing as it is providing more jobs for my Sheffield brethren and we certainly need it.  And for all those 'down south' who think there is nothing good north of Birmingham then it proves them wrong.
We have always been second best to Leeds and Manchester so this is something to crow about.  Hope that the they keep up the good work.

Plusnet's marketing budget is their business as is the rest of their company management.
However I don't see why their customers shouldn't discuss plusnet's strategic development if they want to as they clearly have an interest.
I would vote I don't care

Re: Do users have any right to discuss Plusnet's spending on advertising?

I'm another one who doesn't care *that* much.
Of course, I *hope* that PlusNet has done its sums right, and that the alleged £7M makes a good return - after all, more customers to share the fixed-cost base of the business can only help.
Don't forget that the £7M sum spent on advertising is to be offset against the expected lifetime value of new customers, so is related to how quickly a customer "churns". That in turn is affected by how the customers perceive the service - too expensive, too slow, and too much traffic management, and the churn increases.
If PlusNet is a sensible business, then they will be tracking all these numbers, and they will be being fed back into the decision-making on pricing, network provisioning and the ongoing advertising spend. Simple business economics...

Cheesy Grin I DO NOT CARE!  Grin Cheesy

Plusnet is a business and it is up to the management how they recruit more customers.

Cheesy Grin I DO NOT CARE!  Grin Cheesy

And just in case someone missed that,

Cool I STILL DO NOT CARE!  Cool
