Oddball,
Unfortunately there's no way we can stop non-direct debit processing charges I'm afraid.
As mentioned we appreciate if its a matter of personal principles that you don't want to pay by direct debit but its hard to see any other reason why not from this point of view.

Not strictly true, you could have announced that you would no longer accept subscription payments by card and issued MAC codes to everyone paying by that method. Those that didn't either switch to DD or migrate out you'd simply terminate their accounts.
Makes what you have done very mild by comparison.
