I have had any thing from 3.5 to 8.5  Mybroadband is normally on 10 plus to this machine via WiFi

What do you mean it's twaddle.  BT run there broadaband over the local loop as do BE. The only difference is the equipment used. Instead of BE using BT's equipment they use their own. So we ARE all on local loop
