Re: Estimated line speed - how about getting it correct

Mine has never been correct, and it seems it's getting lower. Last time I checked I had an estimated speed of 1.5Mb, now it's down to 0.5Mb.
Apart from a couple of faults I've had, I've always connected at 2Mb. With the addition of an ADSLNation faceplate, I can get up to 2.5Mb, but it isn't stable enough to stay up there for more than a couple of days,

Re: Estimated line speed - how about getting it correct

here's mine from http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,94165.0.html
Oldjim made me aware of this thread.
Estimated line speed:
    8Mb (Accurate to within +/- 1Mbit) - Checked on 2009-11-19 19:33:30
Current line speed:
    2.5 Mb
I notice how many people on this thread are getting higher line speeds than their estimated.... I wouldn't mind having that complaint...

Re: Estimated line speed - how about getting it correct

Hi Gorvul,
I've just tested the line and it's consistenly syncing below the fault threshold rate, so provided that's the same with the router in the master (or ideally test) socket with all other items removed from the line then we can get that raised for you. If you post back letting us know the downstream sync rate of the router when it's plugged in like that we'll advise further, it'd also be a great help if you could run a couple of speed tests on the BT tester at http://www.speedtester.bt.com
Hope that helps,

Re: Estimated line speed - how about getting it correct

Hi, i'm a new customer and i've had some wierd issues with this as well. When i signed up i was given an estimated line speed of 11mb however the plusnet site shows this:
Quote
Estimated line speed:6Mb (This may vary between 6.5Mb and 15Mb) - Checked on 2011-02-10 18:11:40
Current line speed: 8 Mb

This is my current sync:

Uptime:3 days, 0:31:07
DSL Type:G.992.5 annex A
Maximum Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:23,533 / 11,540
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:448 / 10,518

Re: Estimated line speed - how about getting it correct

At least most of you seem to be doing better than the estimate, unlike me
When you signed up for your broadband account, we performed a check on your telephone line to give you an estimated speed your line might achieve.
Now that your service has now been active for 14 days, we thought we'd let you know the speed as it stands today, by way of comparison.
Estimated line speed: 5.5Mbps
Current line speed: 2.5Mbps

Hi Matt,
I noticed just now that the estimated line speed I quoted earlier (8Mb) was dated 2009.  That would have been estimated from my previous address, where my line speed was hugely faster than it is here.  I am at a different address now, (I took the same phone number with me), so anyway, what I'm saying is, is that the estimated line speed is out of date, and irrelevent I imagine.
For some reason, perhaps out of date BT phone lines in my area (not actually that far from my old address), my line speed is a lot worse here, even though I'm physically nearer to the exchange.
Anyway, I'm not sure it's exactly the information you're asking for, but I'll post this here:

Link Information

Uptime: 13 days, 18:44:58
DSL Type: G.992.3 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 443 / 3,399
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 1.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.5 / 0.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 31.5 / 51.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 17.0 / 15.0
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / IFTN
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 167 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 15 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 183 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 8,243
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 6,477

that info was taken from my router - thomson one, PN supplied.
it's been plugged directly into the test socket with plate off  since about last May or April 2010.  No other equipment apart from a phone.
I'll do a btspeedtester test now, but like I posted somewhere else, I don't want my pings messed up from testing stuff at your end.  My pings are very good, and I want them to stay that way. Smiley
I've just done a btspeedtest.... here are the results:

Test1 comprises of two tests
1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Download Speed
2226 Kbps

0 Kbps 4000 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 2226 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 1200-4000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :3399 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 443 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2500 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 12.83:25.27:61.94 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
Upload Speed
320 Kbps

0 Kbps 443 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
>Upload speed achieved during the test was - 320 Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 443 Kbps

does this help?

Re: Estimated line speed - how about getting it correct

Your noise margin is high which has considerably reduced your sync speed - something isn't optimal!
I think from those stats you have interleaving off, is that for a reason? You may get far better speeds with interleaving on and the noise margin reset.

I've no idea jelv - I don't know if interleaving is on or off....
who resets my noise margin?

Re: Estimated line speed - how about getting it correct

Just run a new line check, unfortunately it won't update the line check on your account though (there's a problem open on that at the moment).
Here are the details:
BT LineCheck Results - Live
Telephone Number: removed
Exchange: also removed (I'm sure Gorvul will decide if it's worth providing this information to all forum readers Smiley )
DSL Availability: Yes
Highest Available Speed: 3.0Mb
Max Enabled: Yes
Max line speed: 3.0Mb
Wbc Enabled: Yes
Wbc line speed: 3.0Mb
AnnexM Enabled: Yes
AnnexM Download Speed: 1.5Mb
AnnexM Upload Speed: 0.5Mb
Looks about right for what you're getting to be honest.

Re: Estimated line speed - how about getting it correct

ok thanks Matt.  I'll just have to wait til BT improve the lines/system/network/other.....
I've never really understood why I get such low download speed, when I live a stone's throw fromteh exchange.  Perhaps the technology is just old in my area, or maybe BT want me to join their superfast BB when the time comes/if it's not already come.
I've no idea.  But, like I said, I'm fairly close physically to the exchange, but maybe BT like to keep the expensive properties in the area supplied with the better service..  I've noticed the council do that with the potholes, mainly being fixed first on the posher roads..

If you put your phone number and postcode into Kitz's checker it how far does that reckon you are from the exchange (by road)?
