Re: I have been tempted by BT

You missed a bit.... before your bold...
These procedures must include the ability to contact the Gaining Communications Provider
unfortunately, the previous paragraph does not make it clear what device should/could be used

Re: I have been tempted by BT

@ shutter, my point was very much to emphasise that OFCOM recognise email as a legitimate form of communication for a customer to contact a CP for the purpose of terminating a contract (infact, in these circumstances it is a form of communication that the CP must allow so why should it not be considered appropriate in other circumstances.)
Is there any legitimate reason (in principal at least) why the rules should be any different for established customers compared with transferring customers (or broadband customers compared with POTS customers)?
I view the act of contacting the CP for the purpose of terminating a contract as extending to the likely dialogue of the CP making an offer to retain the business.

Re: I have been tempted by BT

l understand your point.... !..
trouble is will PlusNet... or will tbey be the same as insurance companies..... look for any loophole to save the work of having to change the systems....
on another point....
What is the good of having a Feedback board on the forum, if nobody is going to take any notice of it....( for at least 4 of my 6 years, and maybe all of the 8 that Matt has been here....
( Well, at least Kelly has said he will do something.... Thanks Kelly.  Wink )

Ah, that's the big question, along with how long would it take to change if they did decide to?

Re: I have been tempted by BT

Going back a bit I just found this document http://consumers.ofcom.org.uk/codes-of-practice/migrations-authorisation-code-mac-broadband-migratio...
Quote
A1.4 The Communications Provider shall provide its End-Users with two or more of the following contact methods:
    telephone numbers;
    e-mail address; and
    postal address,
for the purposes of an End-User contacting the Communications Provider to obtain a MAC.
The interesting part is that it doesn't include a ticket on the account

Re: I have been tempted by BT

Yep, Plusnet do stick to the letter of the regulations, they provide the minimum two methods.
Likewise the regulations say a MAC must be provided within a maximum of 5 days so they deliberately delay it until the 5th day when in practice they could (like most other ISPs) provide it much quicker.

Shutter: I'd be tempted to ring them up when you have loads of time to spare. If they are in any way difficult with you because of your hearing difficulties or try to cut you off because it's taking too much time raise a complaint. James or one of his team will then have to spend time listening to the call.

I've only just seen this thread, and only read the first few posts upto around Matt's "towing the company line" type response.
I was just going to post to say I'd read in more detail later and post back, but in essence from what I could see, it's "Plusnet - pull your finger out".
Though having seen jelv's last response, I agree with that suggestion, although it's a boring Mon-Fri office hours job. Should the worst happen, they could be guilty of breaching Disabiliity Discriminatiuon laws as well!. Happy days.
To use a well worn expression "I'll be back" ........somewhat later.

No we don't, it's provided the same day or next day and has been for several months.

Re: I have been tempted by BT

Gerry,
Kelly has fed your comments (and others) back to the head of Sales and COT as he said he would. At the moment we have no plans to change the methods customers can use to request cancellation or a MAC but if we do change them in future then we'll let you know.

Oh! That was changed quietly. Thinking about it, it's some time since I've seen a moan about that.

I think Chris posted on about 3 or 4 threads at the time we made the change.

Re: I have been tempted by BT

I seem to remember that it was being run as a trial - I don't remember anything about it being permanent
