Is your phone service with Plusnet? If not, why not?

Re: Is your phone service with Plusnet? If not, why not?

Nothing to add to what has already been said, regarding Plusnet PSTN. I'm sticking with BT for now.
If anything I'm trying to move away from having an analogue phone connection (it's so 19CN !), and move entirely to VoIP.
I would be VERY interested if Plusnet were to offer Naked DSL, which I know is the opposite of what Bob asked !.
A recent TBB survey showed that 78% of respondents wanted a naked DSL option ! - so why isn't it available ?

I'm with PN for phone service, but never use it and don't even have a phone plugged in.
Like Purleigh I would love to see a naked DSL service, but can't see it ever happening tbh.

I'm the same as you, DaveyH.

Re: Is your phone service with Plusnet? If not, why not?

When I signed up for PN unlimited broadband for 12 months a few weeks ago I decided I may as well agree to BT's 12 month line retail saver to run concurrently. It worked out cheaper than PN's at £10.29 per month and I also have free 'anytime' calls for £5.76 and your don't pay for caller display/1471 etc.

Voted for the plain yes option - no issues at all with the service, support or price although the TV/BT sport offering with BT would perhaps convince me to look at alternatives when the fibre contract is up (hopefully Plusnet will have some options in that area by then though).

Re: Is your phone service with Plusnet? If not, why not?

I have PN phone, I switched to it when it was markedly cheaper that BT.  Paying for CLI is disappointing however having a single supplier for phone and broadband has significant advantages when something goes wrong.  ISPs blaming CPs for line problems and CPs saying there is no line problem it is an ISP issue are legend.  With a single supplier, it is a single point of responsibility.
From experience with BB / Phone issues on both my business and residential services (all on crappy BTOR infrastructure) PN have been excellent in managing an end to end phone / BB fault resolution service.  The fact that BTOR have been problematic in delivering is however a different issue.  I have only one supplier to deal with; changing to separate suppliers would have to deliver a significant win somewhere... and free Sport TV on BT just does not cut the mustard... especially considering their reliance on inadequate Indian call centres.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Is your phone service with Plusnet? If not, why not?

We have PN for the phone - paid a year up front.
We rarely make outgoing calls, both of us having 300 mins each on our mobiles.
Wouldn't go back to BT for all the tea in China - their CS is abysmal!

Re: Is your phone service with Plusnet? If not, why not?

I'm with BT always have been,I would of considered plusnet had they not hiked their prices up , So i maybe better off seeing if i can negotiate some deal with bt ,for staying with them like maybe a reduction on the cost LRS  or the calling plan ,like many i expect  i don't use the phone much, but for the small extra cost that BT are charging it's better value, bt includes 200 free SMS with their any-time plan , which use for contacting someone on a mobile, never ring them,as call costs are robbery, and unjustifiable IMO

I find this a bit of an odd question - Surely PlusNet must know how many phone customers they have. Simple calculation will tell them what percentage of customers have phone.

Re: Is your phone service with Plusnet? If not, why not?

As with other posters, I have a PN line but I don't use it for calls.  I needed a new line for FTTC (as there didn't seem to be a way of ordering a move of an existing dormant line) and have paid for 1 year upfront.  I use VOIP entirely for my 'landline' telephony and would love Naked DSL* but...  If I were forced back to POTS for any reason I would have to consider moving to BT Retail as CLID is important to me and this would tip the financial argument.
*Worth noting that although there doesn't seem to be an appetite for ISPs to push this, FFTP(oD) provides a great opportunity to finally separate data and voice provision.  Unfortunately BT Wholesale don't seem to see it that way however...

Re: Is your phone service with Plusnet? If not, why not?

@James in particular, but to several others (not FTTP)
Do you have a phone to plug in? If not why not? You of all people should know how important it can be to be able to check your phone line for problems that will result in bad broadband  Roll_eyes
As for the naked DSL,  - you are still going to have to pay for line rental to cover maintenance and the line has to be connected to exchange equipment so that it can be tested in the event of a broadband fault if for no other reason.
Whether Plusnet could supply a phone line with cheaper line rental that had no outgoing calls apart from the emergency/free numbers, I don't know. Maybe they should look at it.

For exactly that reason and that reason only

Well aware a proportion of the line rental goes to the up keep of the network and am happy to pay it, but it would be nice to have the option of not having to have/pay for a voice service for those of us that don't want/need/use it.
Though i'm not hopeful of a naked DSL service tbh...

Re: Is your phone service with Plusnet? If not, why not?

I have Plusnet Phone, but don't actually have a phone plugged in (lots of unwanted phone calls for previous tenants) I just use my mobile phone.
Would love a data only line though, much cheaper.

You forget how lazy I am! I'll probably just nab one from work if I ever have any problems! Saving that, you can get a corded phone for a fiver if I don't have one in the box where things tend to end up in.
