No more broadband without phone packages?

Re: No more broadband without phone packages?

Moving the phone line isn't up for negotiation, I'm afraid. Let's see what happens when I phone on Monday & if a package can be agreed.

Re: No more broadband without phone packages?

No problem. Fingers crossed we can agree on something. Let us know how it goes.

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.

Re: No more broadband without phone packages?

Hi,

I'm curious about this also. Were you able to agree on a Broadband only deal?

Considering calling up myself, as we'll be moving to a new home and won't be using the landline; so hoping there is a deal for the Unlimited Fibre Extra Package (for the top speed, as I'm a heavy gamer) that doesn't require line rental. I was reading

https://www.uswitch.com/broadband/guides/broadband-no-landline/

and it looks like currently only Virgin supply the "Full Fibre" option, so I'd think it would be a question on whether Plusnet is able to provide the same service, or is looking into it at all.

Thanks!

Re: No more broadband without phone packages?

@Danielc93 Welcome to the forums.

I don't think you'll get an answer from the OP, he/she hasn't been back since their last post.

As things stand, all those on BT supplied lines, i.e. anyone on ADSL/FTTC  connections, must have a 'phone' package, as the 'last leg', from the cabinet/DP is over the copper phone cable. Even if FTTP is available to you, you can't get it from Plusnet (a BT policy where PN are regarded as the cheap and cheerful budget brand in their portfolio).

I believe Virgin do do a 'no phone' option, but they bump up the BB only price, so that it is only a couple of quid cheaper than the combined package.

Re: No more broadband without phone packages?

Plusnet don’t provide FTTP, if it’s even available at your address on Openreach infrastructure so you’ll need line rental to buy either ADSL or FTTC.

Re: No more broadband without phone packages?

Just seen that I'd received an email notification saying there was a reply to my post... a year after I posted it!!

So, basically, there was no option for me to have a broadband only package without line rental... so I ended up switching providers to one (Zen) which did allow me to get a package without line rental.

Re: No more broadband without phone packages?

@jab1

I thought that PN had a broadband only package now... obviously not I guess.

I'm with BT now who do provide such a package and not only that, they gave us a new phone number I did not want (or use) as I'm using VoIP with my original and now hosted number.

Not complaining as it's handy to have a spare in case of any power cuts and our mobiles are not working for any reason. We have a spare 'el cheapo' plug in phone just in case. 🙂

If they do, @Minivanman , it isn't listed anywhere I can easily find - the only two options are 'BB & phone' or 'Fibre & phone'

Re: No more broadband without phone packages?

@jab1

They did when I went over to fibre, but that was with a bit of arm twisting on my part.... and then they put my broadband up by £3 a month in order to compensate them.

Still grates after all this time.

Maybe it's something they don't like to advertise, after all it's going to lose them money.

Just a thought.

Yep, I reckon you got a 'special' - they used to do that for existing customers if you asked nicely enough.😁

Re: No more broadband without phone packages?

@Minivanman  You're not still banging on about that are you, looks like it. 😀 You got FTTP at a very reasonable price even with the extra £3 and saved the line rental charge. I never understood why you though it was so unfair.🙄

Re: No more broadband without phone packages?

Not unfair, just bad practice I thought and not the way to keep a customer... which they didn't 😂

Reminds of John Cleese and his "“It's not the despair, Laura. I can take the despair. It's the hope I can't stand".

Re: No more broadband without phone packages?

Thanks for all your replies, very interesting! Also sorry to revive a 1-year old thread; it was one of the first links that showed and I didn't realise the year of the post.

@Minivanman With the deal you got; how much was the monthly charge? Curious if it's lower than the package for Broadband and Line Rental, because my next question is how were you getting internet into your place? If it was going directly there via Fibre then wouldn't that cost more than the Broadband & Line Rental Package (going off BT Price estimates for the Full Fibre approach as an example)?

Sounds like it's worth calling them up though, as my family & I have been customers for several years already at this address so might be able to acquire a "special" also Smiley Also I didn't see an option for when we'd like to activate the service, so don't want to start paying this month for a service we're getting at the end of next month.

Re: No more broadband without phone packages?

@Danielc93  Minivanman had Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) . He was on the FTTP trial some time ago. This is a full fibre connection into your house so a copper land line is not required. The prices that were paid then are not relevant to current FTTC or FTTP products. Plusnet don't offer FTTP any more and only do combined FTTC and Phone packages. You will not get a special deal.
