Re: PN & Openreach

I doubt very little will happen - at the end of the day, someone has to invest in the UK telecom's network. At the moment, it's Virgin Media or Openreach that are doing this on a wide-scale nationwide.
If Sky are unhappy with Openreach's performance, they should be putting more pressure on OFCOM to make the performance targets of Openreach more stringent. At the moment, Openreach is meeting all 60 performance targets set by OFCOM. How many times have Sky complained or asked OFCOM to increase the performance targets?

Re: PN & Openreach

As I've posted a few times, my estate is aluminium so my BB speed is pathetic via the BT network.
However, Virgin, some years ago, laid fibre outside every house. If it wasn't for the hideous way Virgin contractors lay their cable I'd consider them for BB. A lot of my neighbours have had Virgin taken out as the installation was unacceptable.
The Virgin pavement connection is about 2 metres from the BT pavement connection. Virgin also laid ducting so there is an answer.
Let's be careful out there !

And that answer us a substantial improvement in the copper / aluminium d-side network, that is the location of the majority if faults / issues, be they noisy lines, high resistance or cross talk.
Fixing them would fix a substantial portion of the failures.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: PN & Openreach

I thought crosstalk was more of a fundamental limitation of the technology, that telephone cables were never really intended for. With FTTC, you'd still get some crosstalk if all the cabling was made of copper and in perfect condition. Vectoring would restore most of the speed lost due to crosstalk.

Re: PN & Openreach

Here's something I found on the Openreach site about the key performance indicators they publish to customers:
Quote
Following the completion of its review of the UK’s fixed access markets on 26 June 2014, the communications regulator Ofcom set out a number of requirements in relation to the quality of service (for both installation and repair) that Openreach offers for its copper products (WLR and MPF).
A key part of Ofcom’s quality of service proposals has been to set minimum service standards that Openreach will be required to meet for both WLR and MPF.
The minimum standards are set at a regional geographic level (the same regions as those shown against some of the service statistics shown), and are set against 3 existing service levels covering installation and repair that Openreach provides to communications providers. The requirements of the minimum standards are summarised in the table below.
In summary, Openreach has 60 separate targets to hit each year: 2 products (WLR and MPF) x 10 geographic regions x 3 minimum standards.
Openreach will be required to submit a report to Ofcom each year demonstrating its compliance with the targets. If a target was missed, Ofcom would undertake an investigation before deciding if any further measures should be taken. This could include fines. Such an investigation would consider, amongst other things, the degree of harm caused by Openreach missing the target, the scale of the problem, along with an assessment of the steps taken by Openreach to remedy the situation.

Re: PN & Openreach

you have ignored what I said basically.
Perhaps people dont think ofcom's targets are good enough, is it wrong to think that?
Why dont openreach aim higher than ofcom's targets?
Why do they need a third party to set them targets?
