Re: Panicking after all the reviews

If my installation is due Friday, when will I expect to receive the modem/router/thingymejig? I remember when I signed on that the ops lad said a couple of days, but do they have a specific courier so I can track the item rather than waiting in on each of my days off work?
Could be a good week this week. Get my sofa today (hopefully) blinds fitted tomorrow (hopefully) and then the new ISP on Friday.

The engineer will bring the modem, however no router was requested during signup that I can see, so we're not currently going to send one out. Did you request one during the signup?

Re: Panicking after all the reviews

When I signed up for FTTC with PN in December 2012 I didn't have to request a router, one was automatically sent (for which I paid postage only) and BTOR brought the modem. Have things changed? Have they gone to Modem/router combined  (in one box) or something?
I wondered why the OP would have to request a router.

Re: Panicking after all the reviews

When you signed up there was no option to not take the router, after feedback from customers who didn't want to be forced into using our hardware we allowed this to be a choice.

Re: Panicking after all the reviews

Hi Chris,
I've probably made a mistake there. I have no idea of the difference between a modem and a router. Will the modem allow for appliances in different rooms to be connected without ethernet cables? My Virgin ADSL Netgear router/modem does that.

Thanks for your time on the phone this morning.
As we discussed a router has been ordered and fingers crossed it should be with you in time for the engineer install
After the 3rd of November I will have a limited presence here as I have moved to a new role

The router will.

Re: Panicking after all the reviews

You know what. Despite my first comments/concerns in my original post, I can only thank the Plus.Net team for putting me at ease as well as keeping me up to date.
After posting about the router thing, Plus.Net then contacted me and informed me on how to get a router to solve multiple appliances requiring net connections.
Many thanks chaps. You've been great on your part, as have the forum members on here. Now to wait like a patient Ninja Monk and prepare for Friday's installation.

Good luck with Friday, I really do hope it goes well for you.
...all this is needed now is for the BTOR (or sub-contractor) to not turn-up and thereby sour the feel good factor!  I am not sure that is quite what was meant by "...and now we are in the lap of the gods..."

Re: Panicking after all the reviews

Hi Brako
My family relative is on Virgin Media ADSL and they have not received any communication whatsoever regarding all ADSL customers being automatically switched over to TalkTalk.
Due to past experience I told them to stay clear from TT and join Plusnet or BT.
If you don't mind me asking Brako, how did VM tell you what was happening and when it was happening? As I don't want my relative getting caught up in a lot of mess with TalkTalk.

Re: Panicking after all the reviews

No one at Virgin ever contacted me about any of this, North Eastener. I didn't even know this was happening with Virgin until I decided to switch to Plusnet and someone mentioned it in this thread. I still don't know the full story but, yeah get them away from Virgin ADSL. Virgin are amazing with cable, but the ADSL was horrible.
Also. My router from Plusnet already arrived today. Quick delivery indeed.

Re: Panicking after all the reviews

I agree with you about the ADSL and cable.
The ADSL is truly shocking and old technology, my relative is on a 21CN enabled exchange and quoted 7mbps from other providers, however VM only provide 2mbps on a good day.  Very bad for Netflix and general browsing etc..!
Fibre is 'supposed' to be coming to the exchange in Spring '15 but my relative still holds their breath to that day!
I'll convince them to get off VM but they definititely need to keep the email address, however It'll be better for them to set an account up with Outlook or Gmail.
Also shokcing due to lack of communication about the switch from VM to TT
