Re: Plusnet Total useless

Glad its sorted for you mate,
Im also glad that plusnet have tried to get an internet service designed for gamers too,and ive gotta say browsing around the members center thingy it has some really good stuff, Im hoping my connection is just having some teething issues and ill be back to playin most of the night again.
My other modifications wont be up and running till monday so i may have to just make do at the minuet, its not ideal obviously but if it works eventually it may well be worth waiting for, if not then at least ive learned something.
Ive been using my connection for surfing the net finding some interesting stuff on ISP's and differeent connections, there is some very informative websites around, but ive noticed most of the internet gaming packages conection say they are for PS2 and Xbox live, I havent had a PS2 so i dont know if they are classed as the same as the PS3 or not, if they where why dont they sat PS3 then cos thats the new one. More research i think.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

Avoid O2 broadband at all costs, their customer service is appalling.
They offer a money back guarantee, but just you try and claim on it, they don't refund and ask you to send bank statements to someone in a call centre, yeah right.
O2 are good at providing mobile telephone service but I would not advise touching their ADSL with two joined barge poles.
Stick with PN, I've found them to be most hekpful.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

got to agree with you there techguy.
if you where following the forums week or so before chistmas you would of seein my post about having to move to O2 due to my sister moving in with me and her having o2 with a 3-4months left on her contract so was cheaper for me to leave plusnet for few months due to 1 month contract.
i rang o2 cs to see if it was possable to do a house move on her o2 broadband using a mac code from plusnet. the cs guy said yes no problem also asked if it was o.k that the landline wasnt in her name reply no problem. so set the ball rolling with plusnet for my mac.
Then when my sister had the mac to give o2 she rang them up to arrange the housemove on her broadband and guess what she was told they couldnt do house move using a mac code and had to be a fresh line.
number 1 customer satisfaction i dont think so. so i ended up paying 3months subs and the early leave off contract for her cant rember the total cost but wasnt pretty just b4 crimbo.
But plusnet saved the day. i added comment to mac ticket saying i was no longer leaving and got a call from cancelations offering me a wee sweeter for 3  months or if signed for another 12 months a very very nice sweeter. even thoe i had said i was staying thyt still offered me a 3 month deal but since i wasnt unhappy with PN i went for the year deal.
so my exprince of o2 is rubish and i have never actualy bein a customer of theres

Re: Plusnet Total useless

Had quite an unstable line when I moved to them and their only solution was sending a BT engineeer.
Now since joining PN I've had loads of help from other community members but also from their staff, indeed am so happy I have opted into the ADSL2+ trial as I really think that I am more likely to get help with any issues than with O2.
As I say, haven't a bad word to say about O2 mobile phone service (been a PAYG user for 2+ years as I don't use enough to warrant a contract) but I really think they should stick to what they know best.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

same here with O2 mobile, I get 500 min free 01,02,03 calls per month from about 1 mile of home for £10, I use the £10 when away from home, that and my home phone 240 is more than enough for me.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

Sorry to hear so many people have bad experiences with O2.
I had a good one except them trying to get more money out of you that you didnt owe, but what isp doesnt, lol
I wouldnt begin to try to tell you all that you are all wrong , cos in my experience with ISP's everyone has different experiences, whats good for one isnt good for another.
Glad you all found one which works for you all, My connection is getting better by the day, but come monday im 100% sure that my troubles will all be over.
I will hope to write some really nice comments about Plusnet, and hope to be able to say that its better than O2.
As i have had a good service from O2 you will hear me say nice things about them, lets hope my loyalties will now change and ill be able to nice things about plusnet pro, and ill be able to say that plusnet is by far the best connection for online gaming, cant just yet but come monday i think i will be able too.
When given a good service i am a very loyal customer and have nothing but praise for them, but like you guys if your unhappy with a service them i will let them know about it.
Us online gamers do know a good connection when we see one cos we are sensitive to ping and low uploads, we are also refered to as moaners, we arn't we just want what was advertised, if you bought a ferarri you wouldnt settle for a metro would you.
My fingers and legs are crossed for monday to see if my problems are in the past.
Im hoping that they will be and if so you will never hear me complain again, ill just slope off in the background to play my game.Affter ive given them a really good write up of course.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

Just read up on this post just now.  A lot of interesting comments Smiley  Can I just clear somthing up in my own mind though...This all started because you didn't get as fast a connection for the PN ADSL Max connection as you did with the O2 ADSL2+ connection you had before?  Because, you know, I would have thought that a speed loss from downgrading would have been kinda obvious Tongue
That said, how's things moving along? I use my PS3 online with the Pro package too, and TBH I have not set port forwarding, Port Triggering, UPNP or DMZ for it, but it still works ok.

oh, and could an admin remove those empty posts from thet colliecoll person, guess they thought that what they posted all through this thread wasn't actualy worth anything after all Wink
**Edited to add**
I just ran a comparison of 3 different speed testers back to back, one was the much bashed speedtester.net, second was thinkbroadband's speed test and third was PN's speed test, the results seem to be in the deffence of speedtester.net all three were very close to my BT speedtest result which is at the bottom.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

How does the speedtester.net ping figure compare with using a plain ol' ping command?

Re: Plusnet Total useless

Yeah, that one is a totally different kettle of fish!  Nothing like what it should be when I tried it on the london server this time.
I am curious about the "distance" however, it looks as though it's doing some funny things with the ping as I live in Scotland and I could have swore London was more than 50 miles away Undecided

Re: Plusnet Total useless

The gateways which is where you hit the internet from are in London - so as far as speedtest.net is concerned that is where you are.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

Fair enough, I can buy that.  Still I think we can safely resolve that speedtest.net is not woth a toss for ping statistics, although if others want to open a survey thread I'll be happy to see the results.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

on that subject - I am Not a games man -  IF the person is playing a game from Scotland, douse the signal go to to the London centre by normal lines?  or is there a package centre further north?
