Plusnet: the slowest broadband I ever had

My broadband connection is dropped to a painful 90kbps from 2MB. I moved to Plusnet 3 months ago and was getting around 2MB speed till a week ago.All of a sudden the speed dropped. The customer service difficult to reach and often of no help as most of the time the answer is contact fault dept and so on. They have turned on interleaving and for a short period the speed improved to 0.5MB and dropped again below 100Kb. There is nothing changed at my end the router is connected to the test socket for the pas one week. The strange thing I noticed now is if I got to the BT site now to check the max speed supported on my line is showing as 135 kbps.
Any help to resolve this is highly appreciated
Thanks
Sreejith

For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-250 Kbps.
Additional Information:

Re: Plusnet: the slowest broadband I ever had

can you grab your line stats from your router please. If you need any help in finding them then follow this guide http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php

Re: Plusnet: the slowest broadband I ever had

Hi sreejith,
Up until a couple of weeks ago (I imagine that's when the slow speeds started) you had a fairly intermittent connection, which will be what's dropped the speed. In turn it's the slower speed that's meant your line is now stable again.
The best thing to do would be to raise us a fault at http://faults.plus.net (as an intermittent connection rather than slow speed) and we'll get this investigated for you.
Sorry to hear of the troubles here.

Matt,
A fault is raised on 23rd March (ID : 32644305 ). Do you want me to raise another one ?

Re: Plusnet: the slowest broadband I ever had

Looking at those stats and your IP profile something has gone badly wrong with your connection.
As a first step can you post the results when connected to the test socket

Re: Plusnet: the slowest broadband I ever had

Well that tells us one thing - your internal wiring isn't helping
To explain - your speed increased from 2912 to 3584 with a noise margin increase from 10dB to 12dB. The reason for that is that your default noise margin is now 12dB and your previous resync was probably during the day when there is less interference - with the same noise margin you could probably have achieved a speed of around 4000 kbps
Can you repeat the exercise with the router plugged into the master socket (not the test socket) with nothing connected to the extension sockets
The other part is why your profile dropped to 135kbps
Did anyone connect an unfiltered device and then removed it and have you got a Sky box

There is nothing plugged without filter. Infact nothing changed recently and I don't have sky

Re: Plusnet: the slowest broadband I ever had

You have an internal wiring problem which will need sorting out but that might be as simple as disconnecting the ring wire from the removable faceplate.
Can you take a picture of the back of the removable faceplate and post it using the Additional Options button.
However I note that in your first post you say you were connected to the test socket for the past week so if you can leave it like that we can try and find out why your speed dropped so badly.
We need to ask Plusnet when the low sync event occurred - I will flag it up in the Moderators Area and hopefully a member of staff will pick it up.
Can you leave it connected to the test socket and see if the router log shows any more drops. It would be worth trying another filter.

Re: Plusnet: the slowest broadband I ever had

That shows the two wires you need and the ring wire and the one which you should remove is the orange one which should be connected to the terminal numbered 3 (2 and 5 are the ones you need to keep that is the blue/white one and the white/blue one)
I might note in passing that the wiring is very neat - obviously a professional job.
This is worth a read http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm

Re: Plusnet: the slowest broadband I ever had

Jim, Thanks Very much for the help you provided. I will keep it connected to test socket and will remove the orange wire when I put back the plate
