Re: Sam knows testing

That's the one I've got Jim!
I've connected it to the one gig port on my Billion to give me a 1gig switch. Still need the slower ports on the Billion though as I've 8 Ethernet connected gubbinses!  Cheesy

Re: Sam knows testing

I got the same model and all hooked up - the only issue I got is that in the instructions is says that the WPS LED flickers for 30-60 secs and goes solid but mine remains flickering.
I have emailed them anyhow to see what they suggest, I have switched it off and on a couple of times but still the same.

Nah, it won't fit through the letterbox, although I didn't have to sign for it.

Re: Sam knows testing

I've just received a TL-WR741ND and a TL-WDR3600 for two different connects that I signed up for.  I think I've sussed why they are different.  The TL-WR741ND is for the ADSL connection and the TL-WDR3600 if for my Fibre connection.

Re: Sam knows testing

Does the device act as a proper router or as a router that has been hacked to operate as a switch?
If it's the former, I'll sign-up for the new gadget.

Re: Sam knows testing

I'm not technically minded but it seems to be a switch which has customised software on board to monitor things. Essentially you connect it from the WAN port in the tp link to an Ethernet port in your router. And all wired drives are connected via the tp link.

Re: Sam knows testing

Yes - similar to that's what I've got; which is a router that's had the guts ripped out to turn it into an average switch that can do speed tests.
So if it isn't a router, so why are people quoting all that high-end tech specs about these boxes.

It is a router, but it has been set up in bridge mode to use custom firmware, effectively disabling the normal routing/firewall functions. The WAN interface still uses DHCP to get an address etc. which is used to run the tests and accept configuration parameters (mine changed settings from 2.5Mb ADSL2 to 76Mb then 38Mb fibre).
At the time of applying, I specified a Gb local network, so got a 3600 on 2.5Mb ADSL2.

Yeah, but the USB ports are disabled, according to the blurb, and the wireless aerials are just for monitoring available WiFi. They don't transmit an SSID, anyway.

Re: Sam knows testing

Got mine this morning all plugged in and just lots of green lights flashing, I take it that's it? Nothing more to it?
