Saturday evening we were trying to watch iplayer and the streaming was awful.
had a dig in things and found my speed had fallen, details below:-
Saturday
hello just run three speed tests:-
results:-
Date Download Speed Upload Speed
Today 22:10 183 kbps (22.9kB/s) 375 kbps (46.9kB/s) Share
Today 21:58 223 kbps (27.9kB/s) 373 kbps (46.6kB/s) Share
Today 21:57 276 kbps (34.5kB/s) 376 kbps (47kB/s) Share
rubbish for a 5 meg line!!!
going to try switching router off and on now!
Yes its in the master - no extensions and connected via a cable.
Your comment 11:54pm, Saturday 12th December 2009
tried a different router
speed test still very slow - so not a router problem.
will switch off and try again to-morrow
Your comment
11:43am, Sunday 13th December 2009
ok - different router made little or no difference.
I am connected to the master socket with a new filter.
Done the speed test Sunday am:-
Date Download Speed Upload Speed
Today 11:35 595 kbps (74.4kB/s) 376 kbps (47kB/s) Share
Today 11:33 384 kbps (48kB/s) 376 kbps (47kB/s) Share
Today 11:32 546 kbps (68.3kB/s) 375 kbps (46.9kB/s) Share
Also got router stats:-
upstream 448 kbps downstream 7328 kbps
upstream downstream
noise margin 7db 22db
57db --- db
Are youthrottling my connection? If so why?
Before the weekend I would see 3 - 5 meg line speeds.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I have tried the quiet line test 17070 option 2 - Perfect silence.
My router is getting old > 15 months. its a Belkin G wireless modem router. Ver 7000uk.
I generally leave the router switched on al the time.
It is quite good, but will sometimes resink once twice a day if I have been working from home.
Have lived with this, and have thought about changing the router.
Generally I am very pleased with PlusNet and i hope this is just a temporary glitch.
regards
rob

None of the gateways are showing drops, but have you tried a different gateway?

Other than getting the router to reboot I am not sure how to disconnect, reconnect (do i just pull the phone line out AND PLUG BACK IN?)
Taken more stats at 18:21 ish on Sunday 13th December:-
Date Download Speed Upload Speed
Today 18:22 93 kbps (11.6kB/s) 375 kbps (46.9kB/s) Share
Today 18:20 97 kbps (12.1kB/s) 376 kbps (47kB/s) Share
Today 14:08 1170 kbps (146kB/s) 376 kbps (47kB/s)
It was getting better at 14:08 but has since died again.
I am not sure, if the problem lies with just my line or is it more general, is there any way of telling ?

It could be a bit of both. Pulling the line plug like that is not a good idea, it may make the exchange Dynamic Line Management (DLM) think you have a more intermittent line problem than you've hinted you may have.
Could you post your latest ADSL line stats DS & US sync speed, Noise Margin, Attenuation & power & I'll see if some further advice can be offered.

Yes, those are the figures. I don't suppose you can see an Uptime for those error figures?
I see your sync speed has changed since earlier, just so that I'm aware, did you reboot, power down or was this a drop?
The reported attenuation figures are odd - some modem/routers do give odd figures, what is the alternative modem/router you have? (By the way I don't recommend the 585v7 !) I'll see if I can look up some info on your current one.
In the meantime if you could also do the follow -
Can you double check your phone line for noise? Who is your Telephone Line Rental provider?
Can you also post the results from http://www.speedtester.bt.com/ - (you need Java Runtime Environment installed for this to work - the latest version for your OS).
1) What filters do you have? Do they have the "rat's-tail" short lead?
2) Do you have a corded phone, do you have a cordless phone - if so what type - DECT or Analogue?
3) Is any other POTS (plain old telephone service) equipment (Faxes, Answer phones, Sky boxes or Alarms systems etc) plugged in/connected.
One final tip: When you need to swap things around for testing, powerdown your modem/router and wait several minutes before unplugging anything that disconnects it from the line eg. it's cable, the filter, master faceplate etc. Don't do this more than 5 times in an hour, and then leave it alone for the rest of the day. This is to help prevent the exchange DLM from thinking you have an intermittent line problem.
Sorry if this is all a bit tedious, but I can't make sensible comment without the info.

No problem at all. Thanks for the interest.
i think the router could be on its way out.
It can often re-sync itself during a day when i work from home. It will be fine all day and AT APPROX 17:00 it resyncs.
It seems happiest when it gets down to about 4.5 5 megabytes speed.
The other router is from plusnet its aThomson TG585 v7 - not moved to it yet, cos it hasn't got WPA2 wireless security which the BELKIN has.
Tried it Sat night and still got slow speeds.
My line provider is BT and I have just done the 17070 op. 2 test again and line is totally quiet.
here is the BT speed test results for test 1. It doesn;t work for test 2, it just sends me to a screen with no connection error!!!!

I have put a new filter on the master socket, its a filter that came with the Thomsom so its rat tail.
The router is in the master socket, I am using ethernet cable connection to computer.
No sky equipment is on the line.
No cordless phones.
I have 3 other phones connected.
1 with this splitter. Had removed it most of the weekend.
2 on the extensions. both have filters - rat tail type.
thanks.
