Re: Slow line speed

Chris,
Can you point me at a step by step guide to the other BT tests.
I am afraid I have had no success. I just get the 404 not found error and its becoming irritating.

Re: Slow line speed

Hi Rob,
There's a guide on our website here: http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/troubleshooting/bt_speed_tester.shtml
Hope that helps.

Re: Slow line speed

Chris, Matt
Now that link does not help!
Yes - I followed the link, and it explains what to do for the first BT speed test.
So - for the 1st BT speed test I am following all these instructions and its working - as you can see by all the posts of the speed stats on the problem and rant link.
However,
Chris asked me about test 2.
Test 2 doesn't work at all - I reiterate, when I run test 2 - I get a 404 not found error.
The information at the link contains no details about test 2 at all.
So until I have an idiots guide to follow -  Cheesy

Re: Slow line speed

Have you tried running test 2 using the IP address instead of the name?

Re: Slow line speed

@Matt/Chris
Could we have the generic information posted in the thread please, it would no doubt help any others in the same boat. Saw a couple of other threads recently where further testing was required but for some reason it wasn't done.
Hi Rob
the stats in reply #26, are you sure they were the correct extract from the log? It looks as though sync has only been established for 44 secs, remarkably similar to the last entry after a (re)sync.
I see the entry you've just posted is 43 secs. but that is as expected since you've just said you've booted, presumably after just doing the other speedtests. I'll just reply to your PM as well.

Re: Slow line speed

Thanks for that Rob, with it being so low on the 3rd test too that eliminates our side of the network causing the issue which means it's highly likely the problem is in the BT section.
We've received a notification of an MSO(Major Service Outage) tonight, that they identified on the 8th, which may be causing this problem. It's due to be fixed tomorrow.

Re: Slow line speed

my stats (appologies but i disconnected re-connected by mistake when setting it back up for plusnet)
xDSL linestate up (ITU-T G.992.1; downstream: 7648 kbit/s, upstream: 448 kbit/s; output Power Down: 19.5 dBm, Up: 12.0 dBm; line Attenuation Down: 28.0 dB, Up: 18.5 dB; snr Margin Down: 12.0 dB, Up: 29.0 dB)
Any clues - is the problem me, BT or the internet Provider?

Re: Slow line speed

The IP Profile of 6500 Kbps says it's not you.
The Test 3 result of 64 Kbps says it's not PN (you are not even connected to the PN network).
That leaves one possibility! http://usertools.plus.net/status/archive/1260999213.htm may well be the reason for your problems.

Re: Slow line speed

Your main problem is a BT issue, probably as Chris Parr posted a couple of posts up.. As for the stats, I presume you are still connected in the test socket. I'm guessing all the disconnects etc with trying to run all 3 parts of the BT speedtest has bumped your Target SNRM up to 12, so that's why the slight drop in sync. Not to worry, it's not that significant at the moment, once your wiring is sorted and things look stable, I'm sure Chris Parr will do the honours with a reset Wink

Re: Slow line speed

You can plug your phone into the filter, no problem, unless your filters is faulty Huh or just using it as a good excuse for keeping the phone bill down Lips_are_sealed
