yes    a  signal  was  sent to the  receiver ,,  so   have  24  x  bbc olympic  hd  channels on it...
  re  web  coverage ,, I have  to admit.  i  have a  high  boaredom  threshold    ,,,  watching  anything that  moves on a  small  pc  screen ..
  so  would  rather  watch on my  47"lcd  tellie...

Re: Time for basic usage allowances to be increased?

 the  bbc   hd  olympic  channels  are  all free....
 to  receive ( well in hd) u need   either a  freeview  hd  tellie..  or a  freesat  hd  tellie
or a  freeview  hd  receiver of  a  freesat  hd    receiver..
 freesat  =  via  a  mini  dish   freeview =  via  a  tv  ariel...
if  u have  had sky. it  also operates  as a  freesat,,
and  thats  just about  it.

And you can watch material that was broadcast previously that you didn't manage to watch?

Quote from: Gerry
I wonder how much revenue is actually generated from people going over the limit?

Yes Gerry, they'll do alright out of the Olympic games then no doubt. People will watch it, exceed their allowance and get stung with extra charges.
If I was cynical (which I'm not of course), I'd say the April product refresh was delayed till after the Olympics for this reason. Roll_eyes

Re: Time for basic usage allowances to be increased?

@kdoug007
Is that a yes or a no? Can you watch it now on demand (I'm not talking about having recorded it yourself) by actually going into some menu and selecting it? (This is hard work).
@Alex
I got a service email from PN stating that they were increasing network capacity just for the increased demand of the olympics. Cynics of the world, unite!!!

Re: Time for basic usage allowances to be increased?

I thought it was only me but after reading, last month I did well having 2.5 not used but this month, I am still at a loss as to what went on last monday...
My average daily use is 80mb and nightly 2gig, but on Monday hardly using the net I managed to use 2.1 gig during the day and only 49mb at night, thought they got it mixed up, but apparently not???
Now I turn my WiFi off when not using...

Re: Time for basic usage allowances to be increased?

Something else that is now eating into usage allowances are 'text trigged' and rollover ads.
On some forums the commercial providers have programmed their software to check for certain words add links to video adverts which pop and run when the word happens to be clicked. Another usage allowance eater which has been around for sometime is the rollover Ad, as you move your with the mouse, if it happens to glide across a static video ad, the ad will suddenly spring into life sometimes creating a seperate screen in which they run.
I realise there are ad blockers but I guess at some point the websites will work round those blockers.
I found it rather annoying Broadcasters who have corporate unlimited usage allowances promote this or that website, in particular the iplayer type sites without seeming to be aware of the possible consequences for viewers and additional costs.
If iplayer usage etc is regarded as the norm either Broadband providers will need to re think their packaging or such deals as 10gb a month will be obsolete.
