Re: What's going on with PN?

Good Smiley I can see that we're almost at 60 hours now so I'll check back on this again tomorrow for you.

Re: What's going on with PN?

Thanks, Adam.  Now it is getting on to nearly 65 hours.  Not bad ehh.  It looks like it is settling down.  Look forward to your comments tommorrow.  Please let me know when I can remove the router from the test socket.
What worries me most is that despite the disconnections I had experienced last week, I was sent emails (on 2 occasions) by the CSC members that the issue was resolved, when it was not.  Please check the updates on the ticket to get a better picture.
Many thanks for your help and best regards,
Chandu.

Re: What's going on with PN?

Hi Adam,
In addition to my previous post @15.03, I should have mentioned that currently the upstream SN margin has dropped down to 5.1 dB and the upstream SN margin is fine at 6.1dB (which is great, I think).  According to last Openreach Engineer the upstream SN margin below 6dB could cause a problem and he was concerned about the low value.  Can you please check if upstream SN at 5.1 should be okay?
Thanks.
Chandu.

Re: What's going on with PN?

That's all sounding good Chandu, I've just checked your account and I'm happy to see that your line has remained stable for over 72 hours now, so the question that now remains is what are your speeds like?
Here's a log to show the length of connections to us over the past few days:

Re: What's going on with PN?

Hi Adam,
Yes, things are looking good.  I am quite happy with the speeds at present.  Below is the BT Speed test done yesterday:
BT Speed Test on 04/05/2011 @ 18:50

Test1 comprises of two tests
1. Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
Download Speed
2311 Kbps

4000 KbpsMax Achievable Speed
Download speed achieved during the test was - 2311 Kbps For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 1200-4000 Kbps. Additional Information: Your DSL Connection Rate :3000 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 444 Kbps(UP-STREAM) IP Profile for your line is - 2500 KbpsThe throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 15.81:22.5:61.69 (SBE:NBE:PBE)These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic. The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
2. Upstream Test:  -provides background information.
Upload Speed
335 Kbps

444 KbpsMax Achievable Speed
>Upload speed  achieved during the test was - 335 Kbps Additional Information: Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 444 Kbps

Nothing really Smiley Your connection is now stable and the speeds are good so enjoy using it. I don't mind keeping an eye on the stability of the connection over the next few days just to make sure it remains stable.

Re: What's going on with PN?

Hi Adam,
Thanks.  Do I now replace the face-plate on the master socket and leave the router on the master socket from the test socket?
In doing so, we would be able to establish if the BT connected fixed extension cable has any problems if we get disconnections.
I await your advice.

Re: What's going on with PN?

Hi Chandu,
I'd go by the old adage: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". If you're worried then by all means test as you wish, but if things are working as you want then it's definitely best to leave well enough alone.

Re: What's going on with PN?

Hi Matt,
Thanks for prompt response.  To get access to Test Socket I had to remove the face plate and a lot of wires are exposed and I have lost my fixed (BT installed) extension.  When Grandchildren come to visit I am sure their curosity will get them to play with them exposed wires.  So, what is the best solution here?
Mind you BT Openreach engineers had tested this extesion and they did not find anything wrong with the extension.  Also, if you look back into the ticket you will find that I had quite a few disconnects when router was connected to the test socket.  It is only last 90 odd hours that the things have stabilised at the test socket.

Many regards,
Chandu.

Re: What's going on with PN?

Hi Chandu,
I can only give general advice really. If there's exposed wires, by all means put the front plate back on - if you wish to have the router in the extension that's fine as long as you bear in mind that might reduce your sync speed; the master socket is always where we'd recommend you connect the router to the phone line.
Not sure I'm qualified to give grandparenting advice though Wink

Hi Matt,
That was quick.  Cheers for your advice.  As for advice on Grandparenting, I am sure you will get there one day!! Wink

Re: What's going on with PN?

Hi Again Matt,
I should have mentioned that for time being I shall leave the router at the Master Socket; with face plate in, at least I will get back the extension for connecting my telephones (through filters, of course).
Thanks and have good day.
Regards,
Chandu.

Re: What's going on with PN?

Hi Matt or Adam,
Sorry to say this but our celebrations did not last very long.
The router is still in the Test socket and had a disconnect at approx. 16:00 hours and resync'ing soon afterwards.  But, the downstream speed increased and upstream speed drastically reduced.  Not only that but the SNR for down stream was fine at 6dB but the upstream SNR went up from 6dB to 18+ dB.
I have been in touch with CSC by phone and the agent suggested (after checking my line) that I reset my router, which I did.  Both the speeds are now good and the SNRs - Upstream to 12dB and Downstream to 6dB.  This is fine.
I wonder how long this will last!!!  Sad
The only other thing left now is to change the router/modem.  Any suggestions?
Regards,
Chandu.

Re: What's going on with PN?

Hi Chandu,
I can see that the connection is still experiencing some drops, however things are more stable than they were originally. I'd stay in the test socket for now whilst we investigate. I need to state that we do generally consider an intermittent connection as being one that drops more than 6 times during a 72 hour period and yours isn't as bad as that at the moment.
All the same we'll continue to keep an eye on things for now but I think we are getting towards a more stable connection now.

Re: What's going on with PN?

Hi Adam,
Thanks for the response.
Let us see how things go.  The router is now connected to Master socket rather than the test socket.  As there were a few wires exposed for over 2 weeks, I thought this to be the best course of action.  The computer now connecting to BB via Wi-Fi adapter.  Bt installed extension is currently not used.
Many regrads,
Chandu.
