Re:Worse ISP Ever!!!

Out of interest what kind of upload and download speeds do you see if you stop all uploads and downloads first? We're seeing alot of upload traffic which looks like P2P, I've seen instances in the past where saturating the upstream has caused throughput issues on the downstream.
We'd still like to fix this for you, but at the moment we can't do anything due to the migration order placed on your line.
*Edit*
Try restricting the upload to 50% as it seems like the upload is being fully saturated which will cause slowdowns on the download.

Re: Worse ISP Ever!!!

Hi Chris,
I've stopped all uploads and download right now for all those test. To tell you the truth its hard enough for me to try to open a page up without the internet cutting out on me... but everything has stopped for the test.
And I know you guys can't really help me since im migrating, but i just want a little speed to do my dailly thing but this is not funny... Trying to open a web page has been a pain in the back side.

Re: Worse ISP Ever!!!

I understand it's not funny and very frustrating.
Have you stopped all upload and download across all computers on your network? Some days it's over 1.5GB upload, that's why I suggest it may be causing some of the issues.

Re: Worse ISP Ever!!!

Yes, I've stopeed all upload and download on all computers.. hm.. 1.5 gb (cause of problems) - not sure.. but i restict my upload speed to 0.20kb/s that should affect my speed that much.. during some night i see my speed go fast i.e 0.6meg which was impressive and i can handle that kind of speed, but for most of the time i get 20kb/s.  By the way my product is unlimited would it affect my speed because how much i download?? Plusnet keep refering to the amount i download all the time... I have none of these problems with other isp why now? Also they keep saying my line are fine etc.. etc.. and i download 50gig of data in 2 weeks etc.. etc.. but this should not make any difference and the only time i see fast speed is after midnight..
Anyway, no more moaning for me I've accpeted my fate and i just want to know how i can speed up be fore i migrate i'm not looking for a miracle... Also Can you tell me why my modem keep cutting out on me?? Not reboot but reconnect all the time its kinda frustating...

Re: Worse ISP Ever!!!

Running speed tests when you have other processes accessing the internet is not proving anything.
Have you got multiple PCs? If so you have you need to make sure they are all off or disconnected from the internet before running the test - any internet activity on other PCs will affect your speed test result.
Next I suggest you download a copy of NetMeter 1.1.3 (Google it, it's available from many sources). That will show you all your internet activity (both upload and download) - make sure you've killed all processes accessing the internet (particularly P2P) and that there's no internet activity. Now run the test. As well as posting the result of the speed test, attach a screen dump of the NetMeter window (attach is in the additional options).
Uploads can affect download speed because all transfers are a two way process, the receiving machine has to send back an acknowledgement before more data is sent.
Saturating a router with hundreds of P2P connections is known to crash some routers - you need to look at limiting that as well.

Re: Worse ISP Ever!!!

Yep.
Gotta agree. Have been with plus net for about a year and should have moved months ago. I like to think you get what you pay for, but with this company you get very little of anything. I get continually disconnected and can barely read the news never mind any downloading. Speeds are atrocious, forget the weekends just does not work. Plus net deserve the crap name they have built up with online ISP reviews, and its no good resting on awards from the past. My MAC code is here and have just signed to Fast. But anyone has got to be better than this crap. Just makes me laugh with the childish boasts " we lit 6000 terrawatts of gigabit which should make our service soar" bullshite. You attracted custom cause your cheap but too cheap to invest in the service... thats why your losing so many subscribers.

Re: Worse ISP Ever!!!

@shassell, an intermittent connection fault is very unlikely to be caused by something within our network, we have no control over your line's synchronisation with the exchange, and is likely to remain if you change to another BT-based ISP. I'd be happy to look into the issue for you if you'd like?

Re: Worse ISP Ever!!!

Finally, I've moved away from this lousy company. To other people who have slow internet with plusnet - there are hope out there........
Since my move to another internet provider i have no problem whats so ever!!!!!! I can stream as much as i like without the half an hour wait! I can download as much as i want without any restriction or slow speed!! at anytime!!! not just midnight onwards!!! My "intermitance where plusnet said its not their fault seems to stop completely............. hmmm........ they said i would still get this problem elsewhere.....
All I can say is that the internet is working how it should be with other provider!!!
And Jelv you are not helpfull at all so keep out of it!!!
All i can say is thank God its all over!!!!

Re: Worse ISP Ever!!!

I'd be interested to know if your new ISP gave you a new ADSL router? I had regular disconnects and DNS problems about four months ago. I eventually tried a different ADSL router and the problems stopped instantly.

Re: Worse ISP Ever!!!

Well you shouldn't blame your decent ISP (PlusNet) for problems with your own kit.
OR when the root cause of your slow speed was BTw's rubbish over-congested exchange.

Re: Worse ISP Ever!!!

1)no body forced you to take the router, you can select if you want one or not when you sign on.
2) PN are owned by BT retail, not BTw who run the exchange.
any more false accusations?
