Re: Yet more degrading speeds

The only way forward from here is for you to raise a fault report as those numbers indicate a serious fault.
Note Chris's post indicating an attenuation of 57dB which matches your speeds - so something is indeed wrong

Re: Yet more degrading speeds

Hi mayfly,
It does look like the profile is jumping about a bit though it did move back up to 2000 as of the 28th so hopefully it'll stay there, though as per Chris's earlier reply are you sure that the alarm system isn't causing the drops in profile?

Re: Yet more degrading speeds

All I can say is the alarm system didn't alert me via my mobile as it should have done when I set it off, & the socket it is connected to has no dialling tone.
Thanks again for your help so far, I noticed my speed was up again......Will keep an eye on it.

Re: Yet more degrading speeds

@Matt,
The point isn't whether it drops or not it is that the reported attenuation from the router is 15.5dB and Chris reported that one of your internal tests showed an attenuation of 57dB whereas the other showed about 15dB
@Mayfly
Can you put your post code only into this checker and advise the result

Re: Yet more degrading speeds

With that distance it is clear your router is reporting entirely the wrong attenuation.
Is it possible to try a new router.
For a distance as reported your attenuation should be around 37dB - 40dB

Re: Yet more degrading speeds

Sorry Jim I should have got back to you sooner, but PN said they had reported the fault to BT and not to touch my line. Well my speed dropped again last Friday & is still low.........
Download speedachieved during the test was - 605 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 200-1000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :1088 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 750 Kbps
BT have reported the line as stable - but yesterday PN have gone back to them explaining it is stable at around 500kbps but doesn't sustain higher speeds for more that 2-3 days. Not sure why that wasn't made clear to them before. Don't get me wrong the Tech support guys have been really good & in the main kept me informed, but.......
this is becoming a real pain now & was first reported by ticket [this time round] on the 17th Feb, [previously reported last August & November. All I can basically do is browse the web, I can't view video clips at all, & I'm paying for the pleasure!!!!

Re: Yet more degrading speeds

Hi Mayfly,
Just taken a look at this for you and it looks like another engineer visit is required - the ticket is with you, if you could update with available times (and confirm the tests are done - sorry to ask again) we'll get it booked for you.

Re: Yet more degrading speeds

Thanks everyone for all your help Smiley
The engineer came yesterday & changed the main socket - unfortunately I had a mains power outage today, but indications are looking as tho' my speeds should increase to 4-5megs so lets hope this has sorted the problem.
Thanks again>

Re: Yet more degrading speeds

Thanks Mayfly,
I've checked your line and can definitely agree with that. Its just a case of waiting 72 hours in total (bearing in mind you have been online for just under 11 hours) for the line profile to reset.

Re: Yet more degrading speeds

Thank you Plusnet & all involved. My speed seems to have settled around the 3500kbps mark. Lets hope it can sustain it!!
Only 1 comment really - I had no idea my line was capable of those types of speeds, Perhaps I've missed out for a year or 2...........
