If I understand correctly at your previous house you had a solid internet connection but at the new house it is decidedly dodgy.
This points to a problem either with the BT connection to the house or an internal wiring problem.
As a first step can you post the stats from your router - noise margin, attenuation and speeds.
This will tell you how to get them http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php
Next have you tried connecting to the test socket - that is the socket behind the removable part of the BT faceplate which is the one where the cable first enters the property
