I suggest you should edit your signature to point out that home phone users may have to pay if they call that number whereas taking their chances with 0845 is free.

Shan't!
If I call that 0845 number in the daytime - then I have to pay.
If I call 0114-296-5198 in the daytime, that is also chargeable.
If I call either number in the evening or at weekends, then they are both free.
I suspect that a geographical rate number is never more expensive than a premium rate number.

BT charges for Day time calls are
01, 02 and 03, numbers 4.5ppp plus setup charge
0845 numbers 1.96ppm plus setup charge
Edit Checked my bill and found that 0845 numbers do have a setup charge.

The rates quoted above appear to refers to dial up internet and indirect access calls not normal 0845 calls
This note says
†† BT customers' calls to 0845 numbers and 0870 numbers from anywhere in the UK are charged at the local
and the national rates shown respectively, but different rates apply to callers from a non-BT network.
Basically an 0845 number has an 8p setup charge and cost per minute as a local call

Plusnet advertise free support calls for Home Phone users - that assumes that they call the advertised number which is 0845. If they are not on the Talk Anytime package calls to 0114 during weekday daytime are chargeable.
You are advocating people call 0114 - I hope you will personally reimburse anyone who is charged as a result of following your recommendation.
What is wrong with putting something similar to my signature - just to cover your own backside!
You are just being bloody-minded!

depending on the telephone provider, the time of day and other things like whether the month has an 'R' in it!
[OK I will add an addendum to my sig - but it may force it to become rather unwieldy]

Quote from: Crucibleofevil Is that OK?
Looks good to me - the only possible addition would be "it may be cheaper or free to use the 0845 number"

The 0845 support number will be the same price or more expensive unless your phone is with Plusnet then it is free at any time.
