Re: shocked at the level of poor service i am receiving (phone and broadband)

The virgin router we were supplied with was a d link 2640-R ADSL2 router
also, i know 15Mbs down and at least 0.66Mbs is possible because we got that with our previous provider. (see previous pages for speeds)
jim; where do i find that information?
tell me and i will post it
edit; also can you uncap my upload speed please?

Re: shocked at the level of poor service i am receiving (phone and broadband)

Considering your 40dB DS attenuation, the estimated speed 9Mb (ADSL2+) or 7Mb (ADSL1).
Maybe there is some noise on your line which is preventing it from getting up to even those speeds, given this:
Maximum Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:   888 / 5,184
Even if the target noise margin was reduced to 3dB or 6dB, you're not going to get over about 5Mb.
Something physically must have changed with your line, because I don't see how you can possibly get 20Mb with those current stats. This is nothing at all to do with Plusnet - it's the physical line length between your home and the telephone exchange.

Needs a resync to go onto G992.5
What does it say on that BT wholesale line about the line speeds?
https://www.btwholesale.com/pages/static/Community/Broadband_Community/Coverage/ADSL_Availibility_Ch...
Also see what the line length is here on the Be* site line checker .
http://windows.mouselike.org/be/?DoAction=Checker
There is a chance BT have routed  the line differently during the repairs / switch over.

BT Recorded Line Length (m): 1567
and BT wont let me copy across the info but basically we are not supposed to get over 2 meg download down our line. (which is well off what speeds we have got before and what we are getting now)

Re: shocked at the level of poor service i am receiving (phone and broadband)

Seems you''ve might of had a line had a re-route then.
The 1.6km would give you near full 20meg sync as you've said, but if the the new lenght is nearer 3.0km for  a 40db loop loss that would explain the issue.
The be* line length check would use a slightly older data point, while the BT wholesale is the most current. You can copy the bt wholesale page into notepad via ctrl -c or snap a sceen shot so we can see ,

Re: shocked at the level of poor service i am receiving (phone and broadband)

DSL Type:  G.992.3 Annex A is ADSL2 not ADSL2+
With ADSL2 the maximum frequency is limited to 1.1MHz and with ADSL2+ this increases to 2.2MHz
The probable reason you are seeing that is that the automatic systems have decided that your line won't stand the extra frequencies of ADSL2+ so you are seeing ADSL2 only
Have a read here if you some more information http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/adsl_technology.htm
Regarding noise margin I see that this has dropped from 15dB to 12dB and since you are in the training period I would assume that the automatic systems have decided that this is the lowest noise margin your line will support

Re: shocked at the level of poor service i am receiving (phone and broadband)

so, will it get faster?
are we going to get changed over to anything else?
how lon do we have left on the training period?

Re: shocked at the level of poor service i am receiving (phone and broadband)

If openreach have re-routed the line then your on the low speeds until fttc goes live no matter how much you or pn tweek the settings ;(
If anything that 40db will rise 1 or 2 db on adsl2+

Re: shocked at the level of poor service i am receiving (phone and broadband)

The two red flags that say E-side switch,  a migration  and the serious line fault.
Its a difficult one as PN would be using the 1.6km figs for the 20meg speeds.
I'm not sure what can be done as openreach only have to provide a workable service.

Re: shocked at the level of poor service i am receiving (phone and broadband)

ADSL1  DSL type is 992.1
ADSL2  is 992.3
ADSL2+ is 992.5
so it looks like you have gone up a bit to ADSL2, I have not seen that before, its normal to go from 992.1 straight to 992.5
I will leave that to the experts

Re: shocked at the level of poor service i am receiving (phone and broadband)

Its just a guess, the line has been  re-routed.
It would  though, explain your high 14 meg on virgin & pn using that 1567m figure to  quote you the 20meg on sign up.
