Enter a valid email address

Hello everyone, can someone shed some light on why I get the above error message on some websites when I enter my shortened email address: j@trutta.f9.co.uk? I then have to type in my longer one(which I shortened to save typing time).

Presumably some websites will not accept an addressee truncated to 1 character as legitimate.
