Re: File names when recording audio files on CDs

Mav,
I have downloaded mp3tag, and am looking at my first collection of tracks waiting to go onto a CD on it. Those tracks that were copied from LPs don't have anything in the Tag column. Others taken from CDs have 'ID3v2.3(ID3v2.3)' in that place. Do I just type in 'ID3v2.3(ID3v2.3)' into the empty places in the Tag column, or what do I do?
Under the Options spanner, I have found Tag, and under there I have found both Mpeg and Ape, Mpc. Mpeg mentions ID3v1 and ID3v2, both of which are ticked in all boxes; under 'Ape, Mpc' they are ticked except under the Write section. Otherwise I haven't found ID3v1 and ID3v2.
It isn't so straight forward for me, I haven't done anything like this before, so I'm treating it like a minefield - tick the wrong box and BANG

Click on View > Tag Panel and you will see a panel appear on the left-hand side when you can enter the details such as Title, Artist, Album, etc. for your currently selected track. You can enter as much or as little data here as you wish. Then remember to click on the Save icon at the top before selecting the next track.

Re: File names when recording audio files on CDs

using Easytag  I found it worked well on the car cd player....  However, I found it a tad annoying that I had to repeat the artiste name on every "tag" track...
Once you have "tagged" a track, and it is recorded onto the cd, then the tags show up.... however.. you may need to experiment with the info about the track to make sure it goes in the right "tag" column, to display properly...
On my car... if a title is too long, it displays the max number of letters, and then flashes up again with the remaining.... a bit odd if it is only one or two letters ! ! ...

Re: File names when recording audio files on CDs

Aaaahhhh! Thankyou. The penny has dropped. I have edited the tracks, filling in the titles, artists, etc, and the Tag column has filled itself.
Thanks once again

Re: File names when recording audio files on CDs

Using easytag you can "automate" it a bit.
Start easytag.
Select the files you want to tag.
Click on the CD icon on the task bar (of easytag)
Click on the Find button
Select the CORRECT album (if it finds it, if it doesn't enter some details in the manual search box)
If it finds the correct album then click on Apply and it will fill in the details for you.
You then need to click on the Save button (rectangle with a down arrow) for it to write the changes.

Re: File names when recording audio files on CDs

Thanks for that HB.... does that work if you are not using the files from an "album" ?
I.e.  if I have a group of random music tracks from different albums/sources but all the same artiste ?

Re: File names when recording audio files on CDs

It's a bit more difficult if it isn't album based. You can do it for individual tracks, but it is time consuming.
With a group rename/tag I tend to select all then name ONE artist (or why) and click the bit next to it that allows you to name them all the same.
It can also rename files if you want it to. You need to use the format command to select the way you want it laid out. (Artist/Album name/track # - artist - name.mp3 etc)
