Re: Is there a "linux way" ........

In the original post the "Open previous windows and tabs" check box is visible and unchecked - so that should do the job.

If it doesn't then I'd suggest closing all Firefox windows (or better yet reboot too) to make sure Firefox picks up the new settings.

If all else fails, uninstall Firefox, reboot, and re-install.

Re: Is there a "linux way" ........

@shutter

Just to clarify, what you want to stop happening.

When you start Firefox it opens the tabs that were open when you last closed Firefox?

This has nothing to do with history, check this setting.

Edit: I should check for new posts before posting 🙄

@Dan_the_Van  @Baldrick1 @MisterW

As @corringham  says.... !... If you check out the first pic on my start up post... you will see the box is unchecked.  alongside the "false" instruction ( to the right ) against restoring after crash.

@corringham  Yes indeed, if I close all my open pages.... ( i don`t use TABS ). ( or smoke them ! ! ! ) . then close down the laptop, and restart... then it is like it used to be... just one Google search page with my Stylish colour Green add-on  as it should be.

Think I might try the uninstall/re-install firefox  just to see what happens...

Re: Is there a "linux way" ........

OK Guys.

Have uninstalled Firefox.. ( via the Software Manager ) .  checked that it was unistalled by trying to launch it from desktop icon - did not open !

Went to  "Software Manager"  found Firefox and Installed it again.

Rebooted. and set the FF icon back on the desktop.   clicked the icon... and YAY !  ( un  - Yay if you really want to know  Cry )  the pages that I left open before uninstall all appeared  as soon as I clicked the icon.

So.. now clutching at straws

Double checked the "settings" as follows

FIREFOX NEW START UP SETTINGS.png

FIREFOX NEW HISTORY SETTINGS.png

 went to address bar and entered     about:config   to double check that the settings mentioned in original  post were still set the same.... and they were.

also found this line.... and changed it from 1 to 0  but no change... still restored the previous pages.

firefox browser resumed crashes to zero.png

So.... anyone got any more ideas, or suggestions to check out ? ? ?

Re: Is there a "linux way" ........

@MisterW  Yes, I think that is what guided me to the resume after crash - change it from true to false

Going through it again, to see if I missed something

cheers

Re: Is there a "linux way" ........

That bug's a year old and was apparently fixed in version 97.0.1 - currently I'm running 116.0.2.

@shutter , what version are you running?

Also, do you have any extensions installed?

Re: Is there a "linux way" ........

@corringham  Yes I saw that in the write up there... but it`s bugging me now !.

I have uninstalled the last re-install of Firefox, and downloaded a .tar.bz2 version. which is now running, ( just done it about 5 mins ago, so not fully checked it out)

version is 116.03   so more up to date than yours ! Cheesy

Yes I do have extensions installed, and always have done.. with no problem until a few days ago.

Always set the history to Never remenber history , and all the other stuff you see in the pics already posted.. so not a novice at settings !.

Only a novice at figuring out what is causing it to do this.

going to shut down now and see what happens, as I got a few pages open.

@MisterW @Dan_the_Van @Baldrick1  @jab1  and anyone else who is interested, or has suggestions ! ! !

just done a "shut down of the laptop "   "restart" and  .... nah.... still getting what I had before I shut down... so even using the most up to date version of Firefox, I still have the problem.

Note.. I have not checked the " about:config " stuff.. but I expect it has been saved prior to my uninstalls. and gets dragged back up again.on a new install.

Virtual Box tends to keep stuff back when you uninstall it. so wondering if that is the case

Re: Is there a "linux way" ........

@shutter

I might be wrong, but I can't see how clearing your browser history will help, as the issue is to do with firefox remembering which tab's are open when you close the app, not which sites you have visited.

Are you getting this issue with both your laptops?

How about creating a temporary account and see if you get the same issue with a new user?

Re: Is there a "linux way" ........

Fix

@Dan_the_Van   As you know, I have done lots of re-installs of Linux Mint and all my other stuff, must be at least 8 this year. ( for various reasons ! ! ! !) .. and always set up Firefox as shown in the original pics on the start of this thread, it has always worked for me that way.

Not sure if it is something to do with MINT21, come to think of it, as it has only happened recently, and may be something has been changed in MINT 21 that makes a difference on FF... but then I would expect to see some linux mint forum postings when searching for the answer on google. Yes, I am getting the same problem on my 12 inch toshiba satellite pro.  same MINT21 versin and FF 116.0.2

I

I think I have found a "workaround"... which does not bring up the previous "session" pages ( as mentioned, I don`t use TABS) I use pages....

When I want to shut down the laptop,  with several different pages   ( sites ) open... if I click the Menu Burger at top right and then click QUIT at the bottom of the drop down menu... when I restart the laptop from a "shut down".. only one Google search page appears...

So looks like I have to adjust to a new way of closing down at the end of a session/end of day.

@Dan_the_Van     @corringham      @MisterW      @Baldrick1      @jab1

Thanks for all interest and input...

Re: Is there a "linux way" ........

You were leaving Firefox open while selecting “shutdown”? Linux Mint might have been saving your session if Firefox was still open at shutdown/logout.

Ctrl+q will quit Firefox also if you want something quicker.
That's RPM to you!!

Re: Is there a "linux way" ........

@RPMozley  Yep  !  .. Been doing that since Mint 8 !.. with none of this problem .

So, if you think it is a Linux Mint 21.2  problem,... got any ideas on how to cure it ( automatically at "shutdown") ?

Cheers
