@AWB70 Ah... Ok. thought you were "in transit" so to speak !.
I must say, that since I have left Windows 7 behind, when it stopped being supported. I have not missed "waiting for windows to update".. or on boot up "please wait while windosw is configuring " ( or whatever the message was).
I was in transit I guess buddy but the other way round, I've been an ubuntu user for about 15 years but when my work pc was starting to show its age I invested in a new one which came pre-loaded with W11, I also signed up for Business 365 so was re-discovering what MS had to offer these days which then led on to me digging out the old T100 and syncing them together in a MS eco-system.
Don't get me wrong I can live with W11, just seems a bit "busy" for my liking. The T100 just wasn't coping with W10 and it's SSD space limitations, to be fair I only use the T100 at home when I forgot to do something at work so quickly jump on which will be a lot more pleasurable now with a smoother OS. Due to me not using it very often I was in the same boat as you, doing what I needed to do very slowly then leaving it plugged in for a few hours while it updated and synced Onedrive, It spent more time updating itself than being used 😂
@RPMozley out of curiosity mate, for the sake of learning, what did that line I used to get the sound working actually do? Would be interesting to know rather than just indiscriminately copy and pasting into the terminal.

2) sudo apt install --reinstall alsa-ucm-conf
3) echo "options snd-intel-dspcfg dsp_driver=2" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
“what did that line I used to get the sound working actually do?”
Well the first one is simple, just update the apt manager database but you probably knew that already.
Number two is also quite straightforward, just a reinstallation probably to run the install script again, get things back to default I would guess.
The third looks long but it’s just adding “options snd-intel-dspcfg dsp_driver=2” to the alsa base configuration file. Which I would guess is setting a different driver option.
All in all, nothing too drastic there. I’m glad you got it working. There’s always something that needs tweaking to get things to how you like it but at least it’s reasonably easy to do. You just have to find the fix though 😉

Thanks for explaining buddy, I've been getting in the Zorin forums to try and work out how to get the touchscreen functioning properly but up to now most things appear to be working, enough to be a usable OS as standard laptops go anyway.
So far I think there's only the touchscreen issues, USB-C port doesn't appear to be working and the camera, all not deal breakers.
Seems a bit strange that people have had different experiences using different flavours even the they're all derivatives of Ubuntu! Mint users for instance don't appear to have the touchscreen issues and some people say their usb-c is working. About the only thing that appears constant is the camera not working which was pants anyway tbh.
I feel like I should be getting the settings from these other flavours and bringing them across somehow.

@AWB70 just put my ZORIN 16 hdd in my touchscreen Toshiba Satellite-Pro 12 inc laptop. and tried to use the touch screen with a couple of progs.
I have not got any experience of using touch screen gestures, apart from opening the phone page on my mobile phone and swiping right or up.
First thing I did was to import a couple of music videos from my main machine. did this by usb stick.. and used touch screen operations instead of the mouse. A bit "clunky" for me,... but I did manage it... instead of touch and tap, it seems to be more of a touch and hold, on some parts to get it to "open" or "function" as you would expect.
The screen went to standby and login, at one stage - I went and made some tea ! - came back and there was a message under my name "swipe up to unlock".. so I did... and it did !.
Played the music vids on SMPlayer.. and it worked fine... no "pinch" or the opposite to change the pic size, but that`s not important to me ...
I suppose with a lot of practice, it could be less clunky for me.... but it was only your thread that made me even think about it !

@shutter Glad to see it works for you buddy, mine isn't a case of some of the gestures not working, mine is all wrong in so far as the touchscreen is inverted. When I touch the bottom left of the screen it responds in the bottom right and when touching the screen up is left and down is right!
The touchpad on the keyboard works fine though. The folks over at the Zorin forum are very helpful and have suggested some fixes but nothing seemed to work. There's a couple of suggestions yet to try which I haven't got around to yet including updating the bios although not sure I'm going to do that yet as the update bios app from Asus was a Windows one and I'm a bit nervous I brick the machine.
If the screen issues were to be fixed I dare say it would function as a tablet again, maybe not so much getting anything done but maybe as an ereader for my Kindle books. The issue I have is when it's in portrait mode the screen is fine but the touchpad is inverted on the keyboard but when in landscape mode vice versa. I know it's not as simple as that but I feel like I should be able to find the settings for one and transfer them over. 😂
