Thank you -- that's very kind.  Unfortunately, as other responders here preferred to respond with sarcasm and insult, and I couldn't get any sense out of Plusnet, I gave up and ordered a new adapter.

In case anyone else comes across this thread. According to Wiki Devi it may be a Cameo WLG-1500 in disguise. Wiki Devi has a link to a Windows driver which should be safe to download, but I don't know whether it will work on Windows 10 or not as its quite an old chip set.

Thanks -- too late for me, but I hope that it helps others.

My current position, incidentally, is that the new wireless adapter arrived, with drivers on a mini-CD; it was only at that point that I discovered that the new computer's DVD drive was faulty (I tested it on other disks too, to make sure that it wasn't the disc that was the problem).  So the computer has gone back, and I'm waiting for a replacement.
