EOW - 14th August 2009
In a week where we saw some mighty clangers on the pitch and I incremented the number of my birthdays, we've been working pretty hard at the Plusnet Towers. So much so that I refuse to do all the work in this End of Week posting, and instead I'm going to make you work for your insights! To kick off, I've used Google's Translator to turn the first ramblings into another language. So you've firstly got to guess the language (hopefully not too hard) and then re-translate it using either Google Translator or your own GCSE education. First off it's Kev from the COT.
Well, I hope you managed to translate that. Before a QA promotee, next up is HR's very own Gemma Bray wiling away the hours and wishing she was with Cliff Richard in a big red bus:
So, we're well into the holiday season now and while we wish we were all sat on a beach building sandcastles, what we were really doing was making plans for the MDLP graduation event. And while we wish we were sipping cocktails on a sun terrace, we were really coordinating new starters, supporting their induction and administering the paper work. And while we wish we were staying cool by the pool, we were really meeting a nice chap from the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce. And while we wish we were swimming with the fishes in a clear blue sea, we were really collating performance review ratings to start the levelling process next week. And while......oh I could go on but I won't. For those lucky folks out there about to go on their jollies, relax, have a fab time and have a drink on us.
Well, you didn't have to do much work there, so your next task is to complete the sentence to this lyric "We're all going on a". I'm not sure you've been introduced to Matt, who was recently promoted to a developer for our LCST, so say hello to him after you've read this:
Hi everyone. My name is Matt and I work for the Live Code Support team here at Plusnet Towers. This week myself and the team have been working on fixing problems that are affecting some of our customer, as well as all of our staff here using our internal systems. I've personally been focussing on monitoring our live platform for any issues, so hopefully we can be more pro-active in spotting (and fixing) problems before they affect anyone. Well, soon it'll be pub o'clock and once again us code monkeys of Plusnet will be allowed out of our cages for a couple of days. Have a good weekend everyone!
Have you been reading carefully?? If so, can you tell me which team Matt used to be in before joining LCST?
Well, what can I say? I feel very privileged to introduce the next person. Fresh from scoring two goals in the second half in Wednesday's game and saving England's blushes, we have Defries jingling his bells and giving us Development's update:
Wowsers, another week closer to Christmas and it seems like I only blinked a couple of times.
On the team this week, we've had Nick and myself on pencils, with Gary, Sam and Asgar on crayons, Phill on keyboards and Jonny keeping us all in order.
It's been a busy one for us web weavers. We've been sorting out the last few design problem fixes relating to our new business products, as well as more general problems.
There's been work on new designs for bits of the website, I've had my nose into spreadsheets for a couple of days to find out various interesting facts about how we're performing, we've been tweaking emails, rewording support pages and a whole heap of things besides.
Right, back to the spreadsheets for me, happy weekending!
I wonder what his "more general problems" were. I wonder if he's seen anyone about them, if not I can bring in some cream after the weekend and see if that works. Anyway, considering you're meant to be doing most of the work here, you haven't done very much so far. Let's do something about that! Can you untangle Mand's words?
This your week mighty team comms done have: Chris: joy fun the in poking office, sheets excel dried with sheep and why wondering keeps Matt about talking raptor the factor risk Matt: week this have I been mostly the in and forums about panicking nuptials upcoming (didn't he that say bit last we but tell can ) Mand: come I've to back office the week this a for after holiday, time some filled off birthday with and celebrations house moving . I've working been problems on, next the project big, and a writing pretty very with presentation and Kelly Steve. Andy: Updating Pages Support , at looking search our entries keymatch trying and improve to My the Account front a page bit. Catching with up and Pete the enjoying of company rabbit: link. Bob: TR69, forums, twittering, some and project work new. James still is in Italy somewhere slacking. Andy I and are revelling also in blue the half Sheffield of making through it to next the round the of cup, the with absence conspicuous the of red from nearby team . Our lovely colleague Ali in BI shared a link with us which, frankly, amused him far more than it should have: Click here to see! On note that, have good a weekend, and see we'll ya week next.
You worked hard for that one, so I'll give you a break next from QA's Pete Smith:
I'll not mention the ‘b' word, I'll just say that the QA team are all looking forward to a well deserved weekend. All that is, except Catherine, who's weekend has already started. I can't remember the name of the festival she's gone to but it sounds pretty heavy, hope the weather stays nice. Gavin has spent most of the week testing performance improvements to our broadband usage monitoring system - the results have been very encouraging, but we've still got more work to do there. Matt has been looking after priority problems. Nigel has been providing in-life support for our recent Business Broadband product refresh. Paul has been focussing on our Partner Portal, with improvements to our enhanced care offering and other minor tweaks. Gary's been testing the first phase of our automated process for provisioning customers on the new 21CN products. In-between talking to anyone who'll listen about my new car, I've been working on a bunch of improvements to our sign-up process and Order Tracker. That's it from QA, have a great weekend.
Ok, I will ask you two questions: 1) What did he mean by the 'b' word? And, 2) Can you guess what new car he bought? Finally, it's Denis from the Network Transformation team... robots in disguise:
Hi all, Denis from Network Transformation here. This week our system engineers have been working extremely hard on innovations and improvements in Easy Setup Router, Capacity Based Charging and Mail platforms. And the networks part of our team have spent efforts on bringing more speed to our network by activating new segments, building a new entrance to Internet and adjusting rules in our Traffic Management system. And almost everyone has spent a lot of time working on the services migration to our new datacentre.
That's it from the Towers that be, I'll just leave you with my prediction for the week. Murray will be Tennis' world number 2 on Monday. Anyway, have a fantastic weekend and enjoy the weather - if it's sunny have a BBQ but if it's raining I'm sure you'll find something interesting on the Internet. Now I'm off to teach my little boy how to say sorry!
