Please don't tell me we've had our summer
The nice weather that was around recently appears to have deserted us and I'm now trying to delay going home hoping the rain will go off. Others have now left for the day so lets see what the departments have been up to. First up, we have James in Comms:
Today in Comms, we've had a rather interesting day. Bob's been constructing a master plan to construct an underground go-karting track linking Doncaster to Sheffield to ensure that he is able to get himself to and from work in a timely manner. This will allow him to increase his efficiency when pulling his additional hours and will also help to improve our Comms On Call (COC) processes. Mand's been accessing the merits of changing the name of Home Phone to Phone Home. We're hoping that this should encourage cult fans of the 80's movie ET, thus increasing the number of sign ups we'll be able to receive. Chris has been sadly mesmerised by the 'red ring of death' on his XBOX. This has resulted in his eyesight being impaired by the constant vision of a red ring. Now, this might improve his accuracy whilst playing 'FPS' games on his console, unfortunately it does make posting on forums a little tricky. I've been considering some of my great plans for world domination. Sadly they haven't managed to get off the ground just yet, but I'll be off to Middlesbrough at the weekend to try and seek some inspiration. It might however result in my ending every sentence like a question, so I don't think it's going to help too much
Next up we have Chris in Marketing:
Gloomy gloomy gloomster is all I have to say about the day. We've been looking out of the window at the inclement weather from the warmth of the marketing desk. We've also been working on some emails, some LAN party PR work and some serious spreadsheet analysis. Spencer is back from his long weekend and has been catching up on all the excitement he has missed. I'm off to play some football in the rain tonight - the things I do for PlusNet!
Geoff from Networks:
Most of the day has been spent by several people recovering from the ellacoya DB issues which manifested themselves this morning. It is believe that this is now fixed, but took a lot of time to work out what had gone wrong, and even more time cleaning up after the event. Work on the in house backup solution progressed. There is still some way to go, but things are moving. People who developed the platform which our server monitoring is deployed on were in the office today. Some optimizations and issues were dealt with. One of the databases which deals with Telephone usage failed. This was recovered, but not until some old Solaris issues were worked around.
That's a wrap... Colin
