Friday 24th July 2009

Welcome to the last end of day of another week, apologies for the lateness but important things like the biggest football game of the season thus far have taken priority (Chesterfield beat Matlock Town 5-2). Today was a big day for Plusnet with the debut of our ITV Weather sponsorship, sadly we didn't break the ITV Player record but it was pretty short notice when we posted but there was certainly a small spike in traffic around 11:26am this morning. But now on with the end of day and first today is an end of week for HR with Jen:

So, it's been Therese' first week properly on Plusnet turf and she's been taking the opportunity to get to meet the team here and get to grips with what we're all about. Meanwhile Amanda's been finalising the stuff she's been working on to hand over before she leaves to take up her new post.

We have all had a busy week with resourcing and recruitment. Lots going on at the moment internally in this respect, doing interviews, adverts and liasing with managers. We've also been chasing role profiles. There's been various employee relations stuff going on as well. It's been payroll cut off so we've liaised with Finance on getting sure people get paid right.

Amongst other things, we've been sorting out our Best Companies application online ahead of this year's competition and making arrangements for the levelling process for performance review ratings.

Finally, Gemma went off on holiday as it's her birthday this weekend. So, Happy Birthday Gem, we hope you have fun!

Secondly today is Bob from the Comms Team:

Well, it's certainly been a while since I've had the pleasure of writing the Comms EOD summary! That's because I'm an early bird you see, and I've normally left the office by now.

Alas, today I have been coerced by my team mates into accompanying them to the local ale house. This isn't without it's problems though as spending money on alcohol does not fit well with my recent drive to become 'fit, healthy and wealthy' (I've just about stopped smoking and have been frequenting the gym over recent weeks) - An apt solution I think would be for my work colleagues to foot the bill and pay for all of my drinks but something tells me that's not going to happen!

Anyways, less of that and more about what we've been doing today...

The almighty PJ has been enjoying some well-earned time outside of the office but for the rest of is it's pretty much been business as usual. Mand's been doing some project work from home, Matt's been concentrating on the imminent launch of our Easy Setup Routers (and helping the Faults Team out) and Andy's been concentrating on our very special, much coveted, and recently launched Support Library.

I have mainly been laughing at James' pitful attempts at using image authoring software! If anybody wants to write us a Community Library support on how to use Microsoft Paint then please do because I think we might have a use for it! Wink

When he hasn't been lending his artistic flair to the Support Library James has been looking after the forums, dealing with customer complaints, and writing up the minutes from a conference call we had with our friendly forum moderators last night.

When I haven't been mocking James, I've found the time to answer a few posts on Usenet and oversee network change control approval. I've also written some documentation and cleared a few of my outstanding tasks from earlier on in the week.

Apparently Chris has been 'being a legend' - Hmmmm.

Right that's your lot because it's now 5.30 and I'm getting shouted at to get the first round in (hang on a minute!!).

Oh before I forget, here's some pictures of rodents playing musical instruments.

Have a pleasant weekend.

And that's it... Take care everyone and we'll be back again next week.
