Re: 5mbps ...........Really plusnet ????

@Portishead200 Sounds like you have a fault.

First thing to check: Is your phoneline clear? Dial 17070 (preferably from a corded phone), select option 2. Once your phone number is confirmed, there should be silence on the line except for the regular 'Quiet Line Test' message - any other noise, report a PHONE problem via: https://www.plus.net/help/report-a-problem/phone/

If the phone test passes, report a broadband problem via: https://www.plus.net/help/report-a-problem/broadband/

Let us know the result - if the tests come back as clear but you still have a problem, we need to investigate further.

The above assumes you still have 'normal' landline connection - if you have a SOGEA (internet only) one, just use the second link to report a network issue.

@Portishead200

How did you do these tests?

Via WiFi, or a device connected by ethernet cable to the router?

The latter is far more reliable, and discounts any WiFi issues.

Hello sir,

Thanks for that. I have no idea if the line is clear, I got rid of my landline phone back in 1987 lol

But in all seriousness, something is up.

Hi Paul,  I dont even have an ethernet cable any more,  but both my phone and laptop return the same results at about 5 feet from the router,

OK, not having a phone for basic testing on an ADSL/FTTC connection is a little unfortunate - all you can do is use the second link and report a BB issue.

Can you post the statistics from your router showing the line speed of the connection?

There are different possible causes between low speed on a fast connection, and a slow connection.

@Portishead200

OK, have you tried logging in to the router and seeing what it says about your actual and maximum connection speeds?

Assuming that you are using a Plusnet Hub2 router, using a web browser on either your phone or laptop, go to 192.168.1.254

Click on "Advanced Settings", (bottom right), then "Technical Log", (on the left). Unless you have changed it, your router admin password will be on a pull out card on the back of the router, and on the back of the router itself.

Report back with your:

Data Rate

Maximum Data Rate

Noise Margin

I will log into the router now and check , I have just restarted it & check the cabling from outdoors to the router and all seems normal and untouched,

@Portishead200 You have a fault - use the 'report a broadband fault' link in my original post.

@Portishead200 I can see the diagnostics bot worked and it is now with Openreach. It should be fixed within 72 hours.

Actually I have just checked and it is requesting an appointment. When would you be free for one, the appointments are 8-1 or 1-6?
