ADSL upload sync cap

My download sync is very close to the maximum attainable according to the BT Wholesale Checker however my upload sync is less than half at 2.5mbps. Is there an upload sync cap?

Kind regards.

Tim

Re: ADSL upload sync cap

It's been some time, but if memory serves me correctly the max upload on ADSL2+ is usually 1.3mbps.  There is something called Annex M which allows for greater upload speed, possibly to 2.5mbps, but even back in the days of ADSL2+ being popular very few providers offered it.  I'd doubt Plusnet would now.

Re: ADSL upload sync cap

@pjmarsh  The Op states an upload speed of 2.5Mbps so I can only assume that is on an FTTC service, it can't be ADSL2+ Plusnet don't offer Annex M, they may have done in the distant past.

The post is not clear  .... "my upload sync is less than half at 2.5mbps."   Less than half of what? The checker result?

Re: ADSL upload sync cap

Ah maybe. I thought of it being his attainable rate being 2.5mbs but he’s only getting half of it (which is pretty much top end for a normal adsl2+ sync). That’s not actually what was said, so it could be a load of assumptions on my part 😩

Re: ADSL upload sync cap

Apologies my subject may have been misleading. This is what BT Checker says, I am wondering why our upload is below the low estimate when our download is basically inline with the high estimate. I had assumed there would be some level of relationship between the two speeds. If we are getting good download why do we get bad upload.

Re: ADSL upload sync cap

Ok, so you are on a FTTC product with Plusnet, presumably Fibre Unlimited.  With those estimates, you'll be quite a way from the Cabinet.

The first thing I'd try is connecting your router to the test socket, behind the face plate of your Master Socket, and then post a screenshot of your connection stats from your router.

What router are you using?  Is it one of the Plusnet Hubs? If so the stats we're after will be on the Helpdesk page which, if I remember correctly, are somewhere in the Advanced section.  I've not got my HubTwo connected at the moment, but I'm sure someone will be able to give the exact location if needed.  If posting a screenshot I suggest blanking out the username on the image.

@tbutcher I've found a fault on your line, I've dropped you a private message to talk about this a little bit more.
