@dmd444, you have the "ADSL broadband" label set - do you currently have ADSL?  If you do have ADSL, there is a chance that there is no FTTC or FTTP available at your address - if that is the case Vodafone won't be able to offer any broadband, and that would explain their response.

Unless CityFibre, (or another AltNet), is available in @dmd444's area?

Vodaphone FTTP is available in my area, but only via CityFibre - Openreach FTTP hasn't reached us yet.

Point of order, @Mr_Paul  - CF aren't an altnet, but an infrastructure provider.

"Point of order, @Mr_Paul  - CF aren't an altnet, but an infrastructure provider."

Isn't "AltNet" the generally accepted abbreviation on these forums for "Alternative Network"?

"Network", meaning the network infrastructure.

That being the case, I would say that CityFibre are an "AltNet".

ISPs - which I assume you are calling "AltNets", are "Internet Service Providers".

Depends on your interpretation, I suppose - 'Trooli', for instance , are an 'altnet', but you can only get a service from them over their network - try getting a connection to TalkTalk, for instance, when connected to them.

So Trooli are both an Alternative Network, "AltNet", and an Internet Service Provider, "ISP", then?

Re: Alleged Problems with Openreach

The same could be said of many other providers, but CF are not an ISP.

I never said they were.

CityFibre are an "AltNet".

Isn't this where we started????

OK - we are deviating from the topic, and I'm not in the mood for semantics, so...
