Re: Anyone have trouble with Video calls and the connection dropping out- Unlimited Fibre Extra

Because of your line/signal attenuation, I didn't expect your speeds to be that good - TBH 66Mb/s is rather optimistic, but looking at that data, you appear to be on an impacted (poor) line which means what you are getting is the absolute minimum, so you don't really have a means of getting much faster - sorry. What do you get on this speedtest (the BT one can be suspect at times) Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

Let me check and will come back to you.

It sounds like the line seems to be the main issue which I am not sure if anything really can be done until BT upgrade us to full fibre. I will run the test when I get home from work.

@and107  Your speeds are not great but should be good enough for Zoom type calls. What I notice in your Hub stats is that your data upload is unusually high if the 1.8GB has occurred in about 3 days. Are any devices such as phones updating or syncing in the background. If the upload connection is heavily utilised it will reduce the bandwidth available for your zoom video upload and also impact the download speeds. Try and make sure that there are no other devices uploading when doing video calls.

Re: Anyone have trouble with Video calls and the connection dropping out- Unlimited Fibre Extra

@RealAleMadrid Thank you so much for coming back to me,

To be honest it mainly happens when there is only one person in the house and sat busy working, there might be a phone connected to the usual of Facebook etc but nothing which is being downloaded. I usually watch youtube on my phone sometimes but it is happening when only one of us is at home. I have a Zoom this evening but my Wife other than watching Tik Tok videos on her phone will just be watching the TV which is sometimes Netflix or catch up nothing that is a lot. Will try turning off the phone tonight as a test see if that makes a difference.

The calls do take place in a spare room so further away from the Router but we did buy a Wifi Extender which we always get full bars on the signal strength. Someone did mention to us about the mesh Wifi system as well.

Thank you

Hi @jab1 I have attached the speediest results for you.

test 1 was done in the room where I have zoom and the other one was the room where the router is

Many thanks

Not much real difference, and I suspect that if you reported an issue you would be told it is 'within tolerance', so it won't get looked at - sorry.

Thanks John, understand and will have to wait until better speeds become available.

The only thing we have running is a Hive heating system other than that we have nothing. I tried it tonight and had the same issue even after disabling app refresh in the background

Re: Anyone have trouble with Video calls and the connection dropping out- Unlimited Fibre Extra

Just to add to this I think I might have found something out regarding why I’m struggling on Zoom type calls.
We have a Hive heating system which the base system is plugged into the Router. It uses 2.4GHZ and online many people are complaining about it affecting their WiFi.im going to try unplugging it before a zoom to see if that makes any difference.

Re: Anyone have trouble with Video calls and the connection dropping out- Unlimited Fibre Extra

Have you tried adjusting the video resolution, example; 1080p will use more bandwidth than 720p

The upload path includes all local devices (switches, wireless extenders, powerline adapters) from the PC to through the router to the internet. For a Wireless extender any weak signal between the Hub and Extender or Extender to PC would be unhelpful.

One the Hub two you can check devices connection usage for the period the Hub has been switched on.

Re: Anyone have trouble with Video calls and the connection dropping out- Unlimited Fibre Extra

I haven't but I don't think my Wife's work laptop is even capable of 1080P

The signal strength seems fine and I have tried with my phone set to not update in the background, the Hive is the only other thing we have connecting. I will say though that when we had a BT Engineer out at the property in September the speeds were much quicker than they are now. Frustrating that you cannot have a basic video call without suffering in this way. I have contacted BT Openworld to add our address to the ones being updated to full fibre whenever that might be.
