Brief losses of the Internet.

I have been keeping a log of my brief losses of the Internet. I have a wired connection to my plusnet Hub 2 router. The Internet is lost for less than a minute each time. So far the Internet has been lost on the following days & times:-

2024-09-23 @ 06:49-06:50 & 18:02-18:03

2024-10-08 @ 08:08-08:09 & 08:13-08:14

2024-10-10 @ 09:10-09:11

2024-10-12 @ 12:05-12:06 & 12:07-12:08 & 12:16-12:18 & 12:19-12:23

2024-10-13 @ 08:48-08:49 & 08:54-08:55 & 08:56-08:57 & 08:58-08:59

Any suggestions as to whether it's a fault with the router/power supply/Internet provider?

Re: Brief losses of the Internet.

@YorkshireTyke Is this also affecting/changing your connection speed? Bald , unconnected figures do not really give us much to go on.

Maybe export  your Event Log and attach it to a reply, and someone may be able to offer advice.

Re: Brief losses of the Internet.

Hello John, please find attached the event log. Sadly it doesn't mean anything to me.

Re: Brief losses of the Internet.

Fortunately, it is helpful to me. 😉 . From a quick look, you are suffering from numerous DSL drops. I would suggest you report a fault, but before you do, a quick question - do you still have a landline connected, or are you on SoGEA?

Re: Brief losses of the Internet.

The loss of internet times seem to correspond to denial of service attacks.

Re: Brief losses of the Internet.

I get denial of service messages very often with no loss of service

@YorkshireTyke

Have you upgraded recently on or around the 31st August

11:16:29, 02 Sep. DSL Link Up: Down Rate=42966kbps, Up Rate=8214kbps; SNR Margin Down=6.3dB, Up=6.2dB
19:18:42, 31 Aug. DSL Link Up: Down Rate=40000kbps, Up Rate=9997kbps; SNR Margin Down=12.7dB, Up=9.0dB

There's been a significant change in the SNR margin, which suggests a change or a fault

Re: Brief losses of the Internet.

The broadband package I signed up to was "Fibre SoGEA" so no landline phone.

Re: Brief losses of the Internet.

I do not know of any upgrade. So would that be an upgrade to my router?

Re: Brief losses of the Internet.

Analysing the log, the OP is suffering constant DSL drops.

@YorkshireTyke As you are on SoGEA, the auto-bot will not help here, I suggest you call in and report a fault - let us know the result, please.

Re: Brief losses of the Internet.

Sorry, should be clearer, have you changed from Unlimited Fibre with phone to Fibre without phone.

Which everyway you need to raise a fault as that many DSL drops is wrong.

I also have looked at the event log!

Re: Brief losses of the Internet.

I'm now expecting an engineer on Tuesday morning, so I'll report back after their visit. Thank you again for your help.

Re: Brief losses of the Internet.

The BTopenreach  engineer arrived this morning and replaced my external phone cable, as the old one was damaged due having been left loose across a flat roof so suffered from chafing.
