Broadband down - random fault on line

Hi,
I've had my broadband down since 10.30am today and never came back online. I rang plusnet support, they've done a line test and reported back there's a fault on the line? But not sure how that can just randomly happen? At the earliest availability, they can get an engineer out Monday, which is [-Censored-] for me as I usually work from home and over the weekend, and the office is an hour away.

Is there anything or anyone had this similar problem with random outage? How can a fault appear or has someone tinkered with the cabinet? Is there anyway to expedite this as now I will have 4 days without Internet potentially.

Thanks,
Ryan

@Rpotter9  That's exactly what faults do, happen completely randomly and often just before a weekend so you're stuffed until the following week.😀

There could be a host of reasons such as a failed cable joint somewhere on network connecting to your home, water ingress inside an Openreach duct, failure on your line's equipment at the exchange etc.

Re: Broadband down - random fault on line

@Rpotter9 Welcome to the forums.

Line (or network) faults can happen at anytime, anywhere in the system. Without knowing the precise 'fault' - which is irrelevant, really,it is impossible to even hazard a guess.

The engineers are employed by Openreach, not Plusnet, and as you may be aware, they have had a number of one-day strikes, which means they are a little behind with everything that needs doing on the network.

Almost everyone will have problems at some point, it is the nature of the technology. And no, there is no way to expedite it - there are others in front of you in the queue.

Re: Broadband down - random fault on line

Thanks all for your comments, I understand it could be anything but...

In the last 30 mins I've writing this post, my broadband has magically come back?! What should I do now, give plus net another ring to check the line again? Or leave them to have the engineer come out anyway as a potential intermittent problem? I had the broadband drop out last night but thought it was a one off.

Re: Broadband down - random fault on line

Fix

If they have identified a fault it needs sorting. It is the nature of this type of fault that they can appear to have magically resolved, but that is not the case.
